just wanted to wish all the American Lit people a happy 4th of July weekend
and to all my fellow Canadians, a happy Canada Day weekend!
and to all the other International Lit members, have a great weekend.

we have some Tall Ships visiting nearby and i may try and see if i can get some photos of them before they leave. It will depend on the weather of course, as they are predicting heavy thunderstorms this afternoon. This is my last day of vacation before i start work tomorrow morning.

Thank you Batter and Happy Canada Day Weekend to you! I actually have the holiday off this year, I usually end up working it, but this year I'm gonna enjoy it. Four long days off, thinking I may head up to the mountains and rent a cabin for a few days,
kick back in the jacuzzi and watch the fireworks. Of course, it would be better if my friend was able to go, but August is coming around soon enough :) Happy 4th to everyone :D

For the non-Canadians- what does Canada celebrate, exactly?

for my non-canadian friends

Canada Day celebrates the events that occurred on July 1, 1867, when the British North America Act created the Canadian federal government. The BNA Act proclaimed "one Dominion under the name of Canada," hence the original title of the holiday, "Dominion Day." Dominion Day was officially renamed "Canada Day" by an Act of Parliament on October 27, 1982. This change reflected the policy of successive governments to downplay Canada's colonial origins. Canada's national celebration is always observed on July 1, unless that date falls on a Sunday, in which case it is observed the following day.

hope this gives you some idea. It also co-insides with what is called a Friendship Festival in some of the bordering cities of the U.S. and Canadian borders. They usually include air shows, fireworks, carnival type atmosphere, music concerts etc.. in one nearby town, we even have our First Nations people doing the native dances and crafts.

just bumping it

just cause it coincides with KillerMuffins thread.

and happy holidays to all!!

And try not to blow your damn fingers off playing with that M-80!

Happy Holidays to all you Lit freaks... I love ya!

Thanks, I'm looking forward to Wed off from work, I must admit. My house is also ground zero for watching fireworks- I get a great view from my deck so everyone comes here.

I deal with French-Canadians quite a bit in my job. They are a whole different animal, aren't they? :D

oops

That last one was me. I cleared cookies last night and forgot to log in this morning before posting!

Cheyenne

hope you have a great day off on wednesday.

and yes, some french-canadians can be whole different animal. LOL. i used to be married to one so i understand your viewpoint.
makes you wonder though that if quebec does not want to be a part of canada, why are they called french-canadians?

have a great 4th of July girl!!

Thanks!

And I think they are stuck with the Canadian label, so the best they can do is add "French" in front of it. Funny part is that the "real" French joke about the Canadian French! And they can't understand them, either. The french the Canadians speak is far different than the french the French speak.

that is true. quebecers speak more of a slang french than the true parisian french of paris. and the french here in town also speak a different kind of french than those from quebec.

sometimes the ones from here do not understand the quebecers and vice versa.
