So tell us: Why are bunnies and painted eggs (and candy and cakes) linked to crucifixion and resurrection? Did bunnies hop at Golgotha? What rituals of sacrifice and redemption in the Mediterranean world predate the uncorroborated Xian story? How many of the traditions you cite are continuations of these pre-Xian rites?

BTW I've spent Semana Santa (Holy Week) in Amalfi, Italy and Antigua, Guatemala, the latter the world's most extravagant except Valencia, Spain. I have some idea of what's worshiped in those places. Both extended fests have roots long predating Xianity. Try-em sometime.

Sorry for having a go at you, I think I misinterpreted your post.
It's just that this tradition is one of the most meaningful of them all for me, it makes me feel connected to people across space and time. I'm atheist too, I view the resurection of Christ in a metaphorical way.

Metaphors get dangerous when taken seriously. Faithful enthusiasts too often kill over them. Sure, you can see the cross as a symbolic quartering of the universe into active and passive elements in past and future. Or it's a sword, or wick, or torture device. Gotta be careful with crosses.
