Happy Birthday, Jesus Christ

Today is Christmas Day.

It is Jesus Christ's official birthday and his birthday is the reason for all the celebrations and everything else that seems to forget what Christmas is about.

Some Christians may regard us Literoticans as miserable sinners. Perhaps we are. So is everybody. We just enjoy some things that other people see as sins. Good sex is something to thank God for, not to decry or to see as inherently sinful.

Please, sometime today, think about the birth of Jesus Christ, among everything else that seems each year to get further and further away from celebrating the one event that justifies all the razzmatazz.

End of sermon.

Rev. Jeanne D'Artois - Literotican as herself and as Og. Only Jeanne has the 'Reverend' title.

Happy Birthday!!! My Lord and savior. Merry Christmas and thank you for saving my wretched soul as well as protecting me throughout my life. Truly you are my best friend. Happy Birthday Jesus.

JC probably wasn't born today. Odds are 1:365 that he was born today.

That's why jeanne_d_artois referred to his 'official' birthday - the day that is accepted as the appropriate one on which to celebrate his birth.

Sorry, Jean. I worship the pre-Christian Gods, so I don't honor Jesus on any day. But I am going to think about my Pagan ancestors and the feasting, gift giving, and love of the light that they felt on this day.

Hail Sol Invictus, the Unconquered Sun! He returns again!

Bzzt!!!

Wrong again: Know any Ukrainians?

I have an idea. Let's not make this a stupid competitive debate and just celebrate. Jesus did amazing things in his lifetime, whether you believe him to be the son of God who made miracles happen or not.

For God's sake people, quit being childish and just celebrate. It's Christmas!

Bravo SIMA !!!!!

despite my upbringing, I have developed serious questions as to the divinity of JC, etc. I know the timing of this celebration is due to agressive expansion of the church, etc.

so, let's debate it later...I am so sick of fighting over it.

What matters is that my daughter is watching "Bella Dancerella" over and over again and pretending to be a ballerina with a HUGE smile....

Wew who chose do do it, let's just give our yearly nod to the dude, whenever we choose to do it.

Cheers.

Beautifully put Bel.

Myself, I'm Unitarian, and a very very strong believer in God, though I don't believe or accept much of the Bible, and certainly not that Jesus was actually the son of God. I'm sure he performed great things and touched the hearts and lives of many people. So don't diss Jesus, or God, or what have you. I  God. I  my religion. But whenever you believe JC's b-day is, cool for you. But PLEASE can we NOT debate it?

We weren't fighting. We were just having fun.
What SM said. :)

Besides, what's wrong with including everyone in the holiday, not just Christians? Nothing, right?

Happy Birthday Jesus!

(If you don't want to join in the party, get outta the "Happy Birthday, Jesus Christ" thread ok?)

Mum read a passage from Luke in the message version of the bible today. It was poetic, touching and one of my best memories from today.

Today i special to me as the celebration of Jesus coming to this earth. God with us. God WITH us. Here. On Earth. Wow.:D

Christmas is pointless without thinking about the birth of Jesus Christ.

Our schools celebrate Diwali, Ramadan, Hannukah etc. in the name of multi-culturalism. For many celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ seems to be unacceptable except as a festival of unashamed consumerism.

Our local primary school, not church-linked, took all the children to the nearby Church of England for a special carol service and the pupils performed a Nativity play. So did many other local schools yet there have been people complaining that it 'isn't right' to force Christianity on the children. Our local head teachers have resisted the criticism and very few parents asked that their children should not go although that was an option. Even some Muslim and Sikh parents let their children sing Christmas Carols.

The only 'church' not cooperating with our local 'Churches Together' are the fundamentalist Christians. The Jewish and Muslim community do not join the organisation but happily work with it for community projects. So do the Freemasons - secretly - because if they worked openly their involvement might alienate some of the churches. The church representatives 'know' that the Freemasons help but pretend that they don't know.

The birth of Jesus Christ is a significant event for all Christians and also noted by Muslims. It is not a celebration reserved for the 'holier than thou, thou miserable outcast sinner' versions of Christianity. Even agnostics and atheists can celebrate the good that Christianity has done in the world. None of us should forget how much harm has been done in the name of Christianity and other religions. If we do forget, we are condemned to repeat errors of our forefathers.

I object, not to Santa Claus, but to the exclusion of Jesus Christ from the celebration of Christmas. Can I buy a nativity scene? Can I buy Christmas Lights with a theme celebrating Christ's birth? Perhaps - if I look very hard I might find something more than a star. It is nearly as hard as finding a needle in a haystack.

Christmas should not be the celebration of Merry Jingling Tills and Heavily Burdened Credit Cards.

End of another sermon from

The Rev. jeanne_d_artois (aka Og who is not 'reverend')

I disagree. :)

That is your right.

It is a Christian Festival. If you want to celebrate something else, just don't call it Christmas. Even Santa Claus is supposed to be the Christian Saint Nicolas despite Coca Cola's enduring image of him.

Happy Yule, Winter Solstice, whatever AND Happy Christmas to you.

Christmas= So named as it is the time of year when the birth of Jesus Christ is celebrated.

Church= It is not a building, but the gathering of people of faith. In his letters to the churches Paul named these groups of people in the Christian faith after the places that they lived in. As in to the Church of Phillipia, so to speak. So that soon after wherever two or more people met in Christ's name the building was known uncorrectly as a church instead of the people who came together and were truely the church.

The faith of Christianity itself is not a religion, it is a faith. Religion states that you can become good enough to get into heaven by your deeds, or certain actions taken on your part. Christianity is the firm belief that one can never become good enough on their own, and thus each of us on our own must be accepting in faith Jesus Christ's life, as God himself in human form, coming down from heaven, and dying to pay for all of mankind's sins. Sins from the beginning of time to the end of time means all sins, past, present, and future. Amen. Which is why we Christians make such a big deal out of Christmas. We want everybody to be saved. Unfortunately, this is a free will decision that each person must make on their own once they reach adulthood, which is around 13 years old in the Holy Scriptures. And probably why teenagers are the way that they are. LOL
