It's either a good day or a bad one when someone has a birthday. It's a celebration when you're younger, as we all want to be a grown up, when we're a kid. But, depending on your mental outlook, what your vanity mirror sees when you look into it and maybe a little bit of greener grass on the other guy's lawn, a birthday can be just another day for counting and we fondly remember our childhood.

When the stomach starts to get larger than the chest, and when the hair on top of the head turns frosty or just leaves the scene all together. When your body has issues, your feet complain, and your back wishes you'd just sit down. When you can't find your glasses, or your cane or your partial. When your center of gravity settles in your lower torso, and it's difficult to get out of that comfy overstuffed chair or you forget why you got up from the chair, after you finally make it.

When going for a visit, you chart the available bathrooms and you think of calling it a day before the sun does. Keeping your figure isn't as easy as you get older. Few of us can successfully win the fight with gravity and time...a duo that pulls no punches. We make the jokes about our age, "I'm still 29" or "I'm still 39" when the former is obviously a lie.

I don't know how old you are, and so your secret is safe. But your sense of humor is quite young. That's one of your best defenses against premature age. Keep the humor with you, and time just might stand still.
