Happily married man falls for much younger woman

So the main character is a middle aged man who starts swimming for fitness and the pool is staffed by university students on their summer break. Later, at the coffee shop he meets one of these students who makes a point of telling him she remembers him from the pool. It's either her smile or her interest in him that sparks an infatuation. He fantasises about having some sort of relationship/affair with this young lady but he is not sure of the next step. Also, he does not want to divorce his wife under any circumstances. How do you think this might play out? Also, he has two sons of university age, how would they feel about this?

The big question: Why? Why would he pursue a relationship if he's happily married.

If he's ignored at home, his wife doesn't respect him or love him or physically attend to him, then he has a reason. But having a young woman come on to him and he takes it ... that makes no sense. I think you'd take a lot of heat even if you had a compelling reason.

Maybe his wife encourages him to do so. That'd be a different wrinkle.

Maybe they strike up an unlikely friendship at first.
I would have the MC hit a bit of a midlife crisis. He starts feeling old, like his looks are fading etc. (This could be the reason he starts swimming.)
A beautifull university student approaches him telling him that she noticed him at the pool and asks him if she can give him a make-over. She explains that she is working towards a Fashion and Beauty degree.

He agrees and she gives him a make-over, she gets him a haircut, they go shopping where she selects some new clothes for him and she even helps him getting a skin care routine. His wife is over the moon since he is looking a lot better and it turns her on a bit.

However the friendship continues and so does his 'new found identity' he buys a sports car and more luxury things that normally a rich college student would buy. His wife worries a bit, but his new found confidence also translates to the bedroom and their sex is better than it has been in a long time so she shrugs it off.

Eventually the university student tells him that she finds him really attractive now, saying a mature confident man is much sexier than all the immature guys that are her age. MC gives in and they start an affair.

Maybe the wife finds out, she is hurt, but on the other hand, she really enjoys her husband's new found identity and their sexlife is amazing now. So she actually finds herself hoping the affair continues like this.

He could hear the smile over the phone. "I love you too."

He hung up the phone. She looked at him in awe. "How the fuck did you do that!?" she asked in astonishment.

"Honesty is the best in any relationship. Why do you think I stay with her? All relationships are a compromise. You need to allow each other the space they need at times."

"But that can't work!"

"Why not? Everything I told her was 100% true. I tell her I want to be more adventurous. Sometimes I act on it, but include her so she knows whats up. Otherwise you get suspicion and needless drama."

Subconsciously she adjusted her top again, though this time for a very different reason. "If I ever get a relationship, I hope it is half as good as yours."

"And I hope you'll have all the sex you need. It would always be better to do such adventures with her. As I said, a relationship is a compromise. Ours happens to be sex, but any compromise still needs the attention it deserves."

She nodded. The sun was getting low, so they needed to stay here at least another hour before they could enact the plan. Standing up she let him see all she had to offer. He earned at least that much. "Ready for another swim?" she said, walking towards the water so he could watch her dive.
