good grief! There's an awful lot of whining about scores that are above 4.0

Certainly that won't WIN, but it is NOT "middle ground" .
Unless you feel that ANYTHING between the highest and lowest is "middle"

range is 1-5 middle is 3
seems to me that a 4.2 a 4.35 is quite a good score.

It is fun to have an H, but even that comes at 4.5

Which can topple with a 4 "bomb"

It is my thought/opinion that there really aren't any 5.0 stories just as they really aren't any 6.0 dives or 10.0 gymnastic routines. ALways room for imrobement (typo intended...this time). Of course i have dished 5's...becuase there were nop 4.95 cards to flash.

Dark... I agree with you completely.. well.. almost. As far as voting goes... I wish that either there was a 10 point system or a 4.5 vote..lol... As far as my voting is concerned... It hurts me to give a hot well written story a 5 if it ain't perfect and as you say.. even the best leave some room for improvement. BUT it also hurts to vote a 4 on that story. A hot story deserves a hot vote.

As far as scores and whining goes... most of us realize that even a 4.8 score may not win and we are used to being in the thick of it. I know that I've never won but finished fourth THREE lousy times (lmao and credit to those what beat me). I for one am USED to haveing all my stories rated BETTER than 4.5 and a 4.3 feels like a failure! There is a LOT of talent in this post and we are NOT bemoaning our scores as compared to the whole submission list... but TO OUR OWN past history. Our only real complaint is against people who vote 1's (or the smart bastards 2's) for stories that are well done and deserving. Those votes are only meant to lower someone's score for unknown reasons.

Speaking of scores... my stories NEVER had a sweep! Now they been swept! One of my submissions lost over 20 votes! and went from a 4.35 to a 4.54 overnight... the other lost 12 votes and jumped too! Wow!!!!!

This time I have resisted.....though I have been SOOOOO tempted.

Hey DG, Good Morning.
For myself, as I said: I was pleased with the story I submitted's showing. Yes I was considering between the top and the bottom was middle. Sure it's nice to win anything, but I was not even originally going to enter. First contest. Honestly just trying to learn and decifer the system. Although I would suspect that we we still in school, back in them olden days, that the scoring would definately create a'bell curve' with a definate slant toward 4+ numbers.

I beat yours... no seriously there's a lot of waiting going on. I waited almost a week on one had about 35 views, got rejected and had to resubmitt after a PM to Laural. It finally posted this morning. The other one is at 161 views and still no word on approval in the same time period.

My contest submission took about 2 weeks to get in..."rejected" mutiple times, because "same illustration appeared twice". NOT so...but I had, stooopidily named them "ballroomdancing.jpg" and "bathroomdancing.jpg"
I THINK that because of a quick read (not a look) it wa srejected. Then subsequent attempts to resend the illustration failed for no good reason. eventually I had to upload to some mystery spot.

What I had hoped was to get my story in and see how it did with no self promotion. I feel it did pretty well, especailly considering that it really wasn't a fine crafted bit of writing. (the drawings helped to bail me out)

oh well...shrug. It's FREE!

91 * 4.66 = 424.
92 * 4.92 = 425.

The products are rounded off, of course, but the total increased by a total of one point for the additional vote.
