My wife and I enjoy oral, especially when we are free from hair. I am able to shave myself with no problem, but shaving her, with all the nooks and crannies, is difficult at best. We have tried razors (electric and manual), with special "coochie creme" from Sinclair, but nothing makes it easy. We never get that close with her, like the porn stars. Anything other than waxing that anyone is aware of? It is hard to believe there is nothing like "Nair for Down There!"

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I have been able to get a very close and smooth shave myself by taking a bath to soften up the hairs and then using lots of shaving creme. If you are careful and take your time about it I see no reason why you should not be able to achieve the desired results by shaving - tons of women who are hairless do it this way and have great success. Perhaps more practice is in order? I assure you it is possible although it can be tricky at first - and be sure to use a brand new head with multiple blades for your razor to avoid irritating the skin more than necessary.

Another method you might look into is sugaring. I have been experimenting with this method recently with pretty good results although it is basically the same as waxing so you may not like it. I am sure there are threads on this method already around here somewhere - probably in the blank manual. Both waxing and sugaring are great I find because they are very effective and last a couple weeks before you even start to get stubble.

I have been on the lookout for a depilatory creme for the pubic area for a while but they are difficult to find and the ones that are available I cannot recommend. There is a good reason why most women use shaving and or waxing to do the job - the cremes contain harsh chemicals which burn the delicate skin of the pubic region. I sort of guessed this before i tried it but I decided it was worth the risk to try it once because it would have been so convenient ...bad idea, chemical burns on the pussy are no fun!

Sorry i don't really have a good alternative to shaving for you but I would definitely advise you not to use those depilatory cremes advertised for the bikini line on the actual pubic region - that is definitely too sensitive an area for harsh chemicals.

Are you pulling the skin taut and shaving in different directions? Have you tried just shaving the bikini line and everything from the labia down, then trimming her mound?

You pretty much have to experiment until you find the right razor, shaving product, procedure and frequency. The combo that has worked for us best is the Schick Quattro Power razor, King of Shaves gel, shaving at the end of our shower after exfoliating, and doing it daily until the skin adjusts. It took me a while to figure out which positions and strokes worked best for any given area, but once I did, it was fast and produced smooth results.

Actually, there might be a 'Bikini Area/Line' Nair formula. What works well for a lot of people here is Magic Shave Powder, which you can find in just about any men's shaving or ethnic hair care section of drug stores and mass merchandisers, like Walmart.

In the end, I decided to get into home waxing (with professional supplies from the beauty store), but both shaving and Magic have worked fine in the past.

I have good results with shaving. It just took me a while to get used to. After years of practice I have found that the Mach 3 Turbo razor, with Skintimate shave gel for sensitive skin works the best. I must shave in several directions, and exfoliate the next day to avoid ingrown hairs. I can't shave more than every 3rd day, or I break out in a rash. However, after years of shaving regularly, I can't remember the last time I had a rash or ingrown hairs.

I have been waxed a few times down there (Brazilian), but I broke out in a rash every time. It wasn't as painful as I thought it would be, but it's damn expensive to get it professionally done! Once the rash went away it was very smooth for weeks!

I remind Hubby of how much we're saving every time he waxes me. :D I don't think I'll continue waxing my legs, but even without that, we're probably saving at least $100 each time, and definitely well over $1000 per year. It likely costs under $2 per session for supplies, which comes out much cheaper than shaving or using a depilatory over the year.

There's no way I could justify the expense of having it done professionally on a regular basis. It's not that hard to spend the hour or so to do it at home, especially now that we have our routine down, I've gotten used to the pain and have found the right wax for my hair and skin type.

Care to share?

All the genital waxing "tips" I've read say "DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!". Care to share the details -- product names, technique, etc. -- of your own DIY success?

Shaving my wife was always the highlight of my week -- one of the few weekend "chores" I actually looked forward to. She now goes to a salon for pro waxes since it a longer lasting procedure than shaving. I love the results, but miss doing the deed. ;-)

I'd love to take over the waxing (and not just to save $$$), but could use some pointers to avoid the pitfalls that are described in the home waxing horror stories.

ClimbHi

A Brazilian Wax at the salon does wonnnnderrrs for the Mrs !! Though it does get expensive especially if she gets this done weekly along with her manicure and pedicure but i think its ohh soo worth it :)

why would she need a wax done weekly. When I had my bottom waxed my next appointment was scheduled for 5 weeks later. I think I might need to do it more like every 4, but still, you'd think a good waxing should last at least 2.

I tried both microwave hard wax and an acai berry hard wax from Sally Beauty first, but my hair is pretty fine so they didn't work as well for me.

So, I decided to give Gigi All Purpose Honee wax a shot. There was a great deal on a kit that included the wax, a nice warmer, strips and a cheesy DVD at Sally, plus I had a 20% off coupon from the beauty club, so I went with that. The whole kit was around $30 on sale, and Sally has a good return policy, so it was a risk-free venture.

For technique, you can find some good YouTube videos and tutorials elsewhere.

I exfoliate the areas the day before with a scrubby sponge, then clean them with witch hazel the day of waxing. We get everything set up (including protection for the carpet and all surfaces the wax could get on), I lie down in a comfy, accessible position, apply some baby powder to the area to be waxed, and then we do the whole waxing procedure.

It's a good idea to test the wax on the inside of the wrist/arm for temperature before you start. I warm the wax on the high setting, but then turn it down so it's about the consistency of lightly warmed honey. I'd also suggest testing and getting your procedure down on arms, legs or other less-sensitive areas. Figure out which directions the hair grows in on any given area first, too.

It's important for the hair to be the right length. I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but have found having it between 1/4 and 1 inch is best (1/2" is ideal for me). So you may need to do some trimming first or wait for it to grow long enough to wax. Having the hair at the right length will avoid excessive pain and allow you to reuse the same strip two or three times in most cases if you work quickly enough.

Pressing on the skin immediately after the wax is pulled off helps the pain tremendously. Also make sure you pull the skin taut (proper positioning and her hands can help you with this) and she breathes. My first two or three times being waxed were pretty painful (but I also have a very low pain tolerance), but it got vastly better after that - last time I was all ready for it to really hurt, and it was totally no big deal. I've tried using a topical anesthetic spray and prescription cream, but for most areas it's not necessary and can actually increase pain by screwing with the temperature receptors in the skin (so the wax feels like it's burning).

If you get in a bind, you can always remove the wax with oil. I apply oil in the shower for a few minutes after to remove residual wax. You can buy all sorts of expensive special waxing cleansers and products, but I don't think they're necessary. For strips and applicators, muslin from the fabric store and popsicle sticks or tongue depressors work perfectly fine.

Yeah, the hair shouldn't grow back enough in a week if it's being waxed properly. I stay smooth for at least two, and it's manageable (in my opinion) for up to six weeks. Sometimes there's an area we didn't get very well, but a quick touch up or swipe w/ the razor can take care of it if it's a big deal.

Okay i stand corrected she probably doesnt get this done weekly but i know she would have it done when she gets her nails done but more than likely not weekly. Ive never had the pleasure of "witnessing" a brazilian wax procedure ;)

My sister used Veet depilatory creme on her pussy and around her asshole and got really bad chemical burns  it got crusty was really nasty

And there's also the option of laser hair removal. I haven't done it (but am going for a consultation for underarms next week), but a friend had her pubic region done (I don't know she did everything or just the mound) and has been very pleased with the results. It is expensive, but if you compare 3-6 sessions* to the long-term cost of shaving and waxing (esp if it's professional waxing), it probably works out to be cheaper.

* Most of the stuff I've read say people see results in 3-6 sessions, but that may depend on skin type/color, hair color/thickness/density, etc.

I would like to add to SweetErika's post on DIY waxing.

If your wife never been waxed, it may be a good idea to go to a professional once or twice to get use to the feeling and to know how it is properly done. Yes, it may be more expensive, but it is worth it and she'd be able to give you guidance.

I unfortunitly do not have the benifit of having some one at home willing to wax me. I have tried to do it myself, but either I'm not aplying enough pressure or my skin is just too hot there as the wax never seems to harden enough to stick to the strips.

I insted wax everything I can from the waist down and shave what I can't. I shave daily to avoid any build up. This means insted of one half hour session using 3 blades every week, I can make one blade last two or 3 days and do a quick run over while I shower. I use a thick conditionar most of the time, but when I've skipped a few days use the skintamate gel.

I really miss having a man shave me tho. there is something very intimate about that act.

That's why it's critical to read and follow the directions on the depilatory, including doing the test and waiting 24 hours to make sure there's no reaction.

Different depilatories (don't) work for different people, but IIRC, Veet contains more harsh chemicals than Nair and Magic Shave Powder. I tried the foam/mousse on my legs once and it really burned after just a minute or two. I never had that kind of reaction to Nair, and Magic wasn't irritating at all AND it didn't leave a terrible residual smell like Nair.

Thanks, SweetE! I'm on a mission now! ;-)

ClimbHi
You're welcome! :)

I agree with Fire, by the way: it's a good idea to have the waxing done professionally at least once before trying it at home. I didn't go that route because my massage therapist is an experienced home waxer and told me all about it, but I wish I would have and still might do it in the future just to see if I can learn any more useful tips.
