Hair falling out?

Mine does that too.

Finally asked a doctor about it, and was told it's perfectly normal and the thicker your hair is the more your likely to "shead".

I shed like a scared cat...I leave trails of hair behind me! Really I should just save it all to make wigs or something...my doc said it is normal too.

It could be stress. It could be clogged pores on your scalp.

If it's the latter - if you're *really* having issues with this - there is a shampoo that has worked wonders for my grandmother and I.

It's call Nioxin - you can get it at just about any salon.

I shed like crazy. Seemingly handfulls of it every day. But it's always been like that and I still have a ton of hair.

If your hair isn't actually thinning it's totally healthy. Dead hair folicles are falling out so new ones can grow in. I've had thick hair my whole life and I've always shed. My hair dresser and my doc both say it's normal.

Sucks when the drain gets clogged though and my poor hubby is forced to remove a hair clog that could choke a horse. I so love the "look what you did to me" look I get when that happens.

Ditto

I have long thick wavy hair and I am always losing hair , whenever I brush my hair or when I take a shower ... or just whenever...

Its normal ... nothing wrong.

I agree with everyone that some hair loss is normal. I lose probably 20 - 40 hairs (rough estimate) every time I brush.

But I went through a period where there was a *lot* more coming out than was normal. I didn't have bald spots or anything, but my hair was getting quite thin.

If it's abnormal, like I said... give the Nioxin a try. It's got lots of natural ingredients that just clear up the pores on your head.

I think *hair loss* is more noticeable when you have longer hair. ie...seeing it on the bathroom floor, shower floor, bathroom sink, etc. I've experienced the same thing and asked...told it was normal.

That being said...I do currently take medication that does thin my hair out some. Not to the point of causing thin spots but it isn't as wavy.

Also, two years ago when someone close to me died...I lost a whole lot of hair due to stress.

I think it has very little to do with hair care products. I do recommend salon products though and not what you buy at the store. I think they are worth the money in the long run. I like Aveda, System Biolage, and Bed Head. I like the way my hair styles and feels better.

I have long thick hair as well, and I notice that hair products do have an effect. If I'm using cheap store bought products, the shower's are a night mare, with so much hair in the drain I have to clean it out so it will drain. So I asked my hairdresser about hair products.

He told me most shampoo's are the same, and it doesn't matter how much money you spend on them. It's the conditioner that matters. Don't use store bought conditioners, most of them are made with wax. It makes your hair feel good to your touch, but it's not heathy for it. It will not allow the natural oils lubricate the hair, making it brittle so it will break and split more easily.

There are a couple of products I can recommend, Redkin and Paul Mitchell. I use Paul Mitchell products, and it seems to lessen my hair loss.

I still have to clean out the brush when I'm through with it. Some hair loss is natural, but you can lesson it with better conditioner.

In late January I got really sick and had a high fever for a little over two weeks. Three months later I noticed I was losing much more hair than normal. I have extremely thick hair naturally - only being able to get a large rubber band around it twice - but now my hair has thinned to at least half it's natural state. I still have full coverage but I can now get a tiny rubber band around it...twice.

I visited a dermatologist who told me the fever sent my hair into loss mode. I shed at once what would normally have taken months to lose. It will grow back eventually, and I will have to cut my now long hair short when the new hair gets long enough to bristle. It took me over two years to grow my hair out to what it is now. I've got an appointment at the salon tomorrow to incorporate some long layers in it for the transition.

Fucking fever. :(
