Hackneywood, er, I mean Hollywood

What is with Hollywood anyway? Why is most of the entertainment that comes out of Hollywood hackneyed?

Post the themes that you see coming out of Hollywood time and time again. Some of mine are:

1) The Rambo type movies where some induhvidual that has a problem with authority is the only person that can save the world from sure destruction. This includes the James Bond movies. Even the plot is always the same; it always the single good guy saving the world at the last second with some unrealistic but highly dramatic plot mechanism.

2) Uninteresting (to me) situation comedies about life in New York (Friends, Stienfeld, etc.). One or two would be okay, but Hollywood can't help but put out as many as will fit in the time slots.

It may just be me, but I think the answer is simple.

It applies to movies and TV all over the world.

If an idea works, flog it to death until nobody watches anymore.

Fairly standard script, change location and actors and off we go again.

If only I had realised this before, I could be a millionaire!

I agree, but

when people buy it, they will sell it. And they're make good money at it.

I find I hardly ever watch much "mainstream TV" any longer.

SciFi channel is a favorite, Fox news, Discovery, TLC, AMC and TNT and occasionally a little C-Span now and then.

I agree with uncle bill....like any other commodity...it's all about supply and demand. The majority of the moviegoers out there want to watch their favorite, glossy stars pose and preen in front of the camera...who cares about plot and dialogue? I want to know where Julia Roberts got that fabulous sweater! And who is she dating now?

I prefer independant films......small on budget, large on (most of the time) substance.
