Yep. An ex-high school teacher in Arizona got 200 years in jail for possession of 20 images of child pornography. That's 10 years per piece.

According to the article, he's 51 now.

I think that is seriously excessive, but then again, what's the statistical correlation between looking at child porn and actually molesting a child? If this guy had a high probability of moving on to molest a child, then it's hard to condone giving him a sentence that would have him released in a few years.

I have visited a few porn sites (this one included) and managed to end up on the master list of porn email.

I get shit in my email that covers all topics. I have filtered out most, but it would be easy to sneak email through my filters.

The whole issue of defining pornography troubles me, since it's highly subjective, but the length of sentencing seems excessive. I don't know any specifics of the case, other than what the article stated.

I had sex with a minor once. Many times, actually. I was seventeen, same as her. I took her pictures, too. When I turned 18, I was guilty of possessing child porn? I have difficulty understanding what is sensible about such arbitrary definitions. Of course I think the sexual exploitation of children is a horrible crime, but we live in a country where plenty of kids in middle school are having sex.

To compare sentencing, my GF was on a jury where a guy shot an unarmed man 8 times in the face. Five years in jail, and he's out walking around today. Somebody explain it to me.

This is why I use a free webbased email like hotmail or yahoo. Those images are stored on their server until you open the email.

You shouldn't use your ISP email address for things beyond family, close friends, and business.
