Just a suggestion. Go back to use blade weapons. Harder to do than pull a tricker, and if you are going head to head with anybody. There will be a degree of difficulty in it.

hmm...actually my 16 yr old said something last night that was interesting...she said that she didnt think that murderers should be given the death penalty cause they will meet their maker in the end...but that any child abuser should automatically be given the death penalty...and this comes from a child who was abused by her birth parents...made me think

You know Bratcat. I'm inclined to agree with that one. But I wont.
Personally I think death is meant as a release from this world. And thus not a punishment in itself. However I do believe that child abuses should be totured in the most outragious and cruel way, with no way of getting medical attention afterwards. And left in a cold dark prison cell,

I saw the same show also ....My kids are gun wise and I would keep them locked up anyhow but I carry and never would lock it up when not on my body....Now don't get me wrong I wouldn't leave it out on the table but It might be in my top dresser drawer......

Well after that show you bet the one I carry will be locked up also...

By the way I meant to say unloaded with the bullets in another spot in our room......never let it sit loaded anywhere.....

But it will be locked with the rest now at night......

I know mine would want to play also..........Hope they wouldn't but can't take that chance.

If you are found guilty of murder - death
You steal more than three times - death
If you rape or sexaul abuse - death
If you are imprisoned fro drugs more then a sorten amount of times - death..

Why keep the people who are distroying everything.... It cost way to much to keep them in prison... a bullet is cheaper

And very true DA. A bulet is cheaper than prison. And I recon the crime rate would go WAY down, if a law like that would be passed.

Me however wouldn't give a rats ass. Death is not something I fear at all. It's part of life and something we all will face no matter what. Why fear it??

DA's thread reminded me of a show i watched last night on ABC...it was Prime Time or something...and they had hidden guns and let teens and preteens find them...it was scary how fast those kids were preoccupied by the gun, how many kids tried to shoot one, or to steal one...i know my kids would try it too, that is the sad part, no matter how safe you think they are, they will always be tempted...

Kids always have been and always will be fascinated by the forbidden.

This show was obviously situation setup to allow children who have had guns hidden from them find them in a situation where the thought they were unobserved.

I wonder why they didn't set it up for chlidren who aren't sheltered from guns, but educated about them, to find them in a similar situation? Could it be because a child who knows what a gun is and what it can do wouldn't be interested in playing with one? Could it be that they edited out all of the children who didn't respond as they wanted everyone to believe all of them did?

Several people have commented recently that guns aren't as common as they used to be, and children killing children is more common. IMHO, the two are connected. Children who grow up with guns and are taught about guns, don't misuse them.

Last October, I met a 14 year old girl out hunting with her parents. I'm reasonably confident that I will never see her face on the news because she went berserk and shot up her school -- she knows too much about guns to be that stupid.

This is a valid point and although it is relevant... a comment if I may.

I am not going to risk the potential verbal slander either way of stating my views on the topic of something like gun control, as it continues to grow as one of the "button pushing" issues of today's society.

However, I just wanted to say WH that true as that may be (about children and their desires to fulfill needs that fall into forbidden categories... guns are a whole new plane of thought as far as I am concerned. Surely you can agree ... I mean smoking, that's one thing... but the extreme ease of smoking "another person" and accessibility with which to go about it is something else entirely.

What I mean is, stealing a cigarette out of mom's purse vs. stealing dad's 45 out of the living room credenza...

Well, knowing you, you won't let me leave it at this. (And that's not at all a problem of course... )

The thing most people forget is that children don't always think rationaly and thats why they have parents to care for them, if tthey were born fully formed with the abillity to think rationaly then they wouldn't need parents....also people get angry and sometimes crazy enough to kill and when they do if they can reach for a gun they will, but if you can take that gun away from them then they will have to find another way to kill and hopefully one that isn't so easy to go on a rampage with.
There will always be murders but by making gun's easy to get you only make it easy for people to become mass muderers.

It could be.. anything is possible. But just knowing about a gun and it's power isn't enough to defuse interest.

That's not necessarily true. Although you are making a broad statement here I'm apt to believe that we agree on this issue. Regardless I'd like to narrow it a bit.

Children should be educated completely about the effects of gunfire. It shouldn't just be educating them about how a firearm works, safety precautions or voicing the dangers. They should have to SEE a living creature die from their shooting it. Prior to this, the child should be fully aware that this animal is a LIVING creature that has no defense against such a powerful tool as a gun... he should identify with the animal and knowingly shoot it and watch it die. I would bet my big toe that most children (under the age of 10 is when I recommend this happen) will be apalled and forever respectful of any type of weapon that could injure not only an animal but another human being.

I agree with educating the children but just not so graphically....and if there wasn't a gun there in the first place then they wouldn't need the lesson.

The children in the news program the other night had all attended gun safety/awareness classes in the weeks prior to the filming. Other similar hidden camera videos have been done with children & teens who have attended NRA Eddie Eagle classes. In every situation, the kids went for the guns, despite having had the safety classes. In one instance, an NRA dad swore up & down that his kids would never touch a gun, that they knew the rules. The look on his face when his sons picked those guns & started pointing them at each other nearly broke my heart. Kids are kids & no matter how much education they have about guns, 9 out of 10 will still pick up that gun & play with it.
Kids don't think of long term consequences. As far as kids who grow up with guns not misusing them, how many of us are willing to take the chance. These are kids, no matter how smart they are or they think they are.
