Apparently, I have awful taste in movies, or so I'm told. Personally, I think those nay-sayers are crazy, but I need some back up here. So, I'll start this off and list three of my favorite movies that I have been mocked for loving.

The 13th Warrior
Comeon! Ok, Ok, Yeah, it was a flop... a huge flop, but it's still awesome... to me! I don't care how much money it lost, I care about Viking warriors damn it!

Howard the Duck
A childhood favorite... duck off!

and finally....

Waterworld
Oh, yeah!! This is one of my all time favorite movies!

Ok, you're turn. Got any movies that you absolutely love that people laugh at you about?

Btw, No Titanic's. Even I hate that movie.

Actually I kind of liked it and I really didn't expect to. I think it helps if you know a little bit about viking history. Also, it was filmed in beautiful Campbell River, BC, Canada and bought many of my fellow stunt people houses and cars.

Howard the Duck

You're kidding here...right?

Right?!

and finally....

Waterworld

Yeah, other than wishing I could have done the cool jetski stunts, this one made me want to stay on dry land for the rest of my life...far away from Kevin Costner.

OK, for sheer laughability, you must get your hands on a copy of "Don't Go In the Woods" circa 1981. My friends and I used to rent it on a regular basis just to make up commentary. I particularly enjoyed the fellow in the wheelchair rolling off to join the search for the missing campers in the wilderness. Nice.

ETA: I almost forgot to mention "Convict 762", a classic!

I ADORE Rest Stop and Drag Me to Hell.

Everyone I know that's seen them with me, hates them entirely. Especially Rest Stop. Check the SyFy Channel randomly between blocks of Twilight Zone. It's soooo ridiculously bad and good at the same time.

Obsessed is also really good.
At least, it's pretty decent for just coming out, but again, majority rule and everyone I know hates it.

:D

I don't care if it was a money-loser either. I have it on DVD and honestly liked it.

Had this on tape and enjoyed it too. Mostly because I thought Lea Thompson was hot back then, but also because I really like Jeffrey Jones as the alien-possessed doctor. His performance cracked me up.

Okay, here we part ways. While I liked the concept, and some of the bits they did in it, Kevin Costner needed to get punched in the cock a few dozen times on screen.

Oddly enough, Baz Luhrman's "Romeo+Juliet". You know, the one with Claire Dane and Leo Dicaprio. Yeah, I thought it was intensely stupid until a friend of mine all but tackled me and made me watch the film. I had to agree that it was an incredibly stylistic piece and that the movie was worth watching for the supporting cast alone. John Leguizamo as Tybalt was incredible, and the guy that played Mercutio is a wildly talented young actor. His turn on Oz was fantastic.

I am actually a fan of many of the Merchant Ivory films. Slow, plodding, quiet, and very British; the movies engross me anyway.

I also loved "Amelie". Not surprising from a quality of movie standpoint, but may surprise people to hear me say it.

I love me some really bad martial arts movies, but some of those have raised bad movie-making to an art form, so they don't really count.

I wanted to see "Drag me to hell." I really love the Evil Dead movies, especially Army of Darkness. I would have Ash's man-babies.

I scare easily. Throughout the whole film I was uttering to a friend "I'm scared... I'm sceered." I LOVE those types of movies though.
It's good Homburg! You should see it!

Weekend at Bernies.

eta: I'm also guilty of following franchises long after their meaning and worth is lost. Like Police Academy. All the way to 7 baby.

Ok, here we go. I was holding this one back, just in case no one replyed.

/drum roll

The Postman.

Oh yeah, that's right! Another Kevin Costner Epic! Pure cinematic gold in my opinion.

Story line, awesome. A hot babe who has zero usefullness. And, stellar acting. What more could you ask for?!

Oh, and...

THIS IS MY BOOMSTICK!!

What is wrong with The Postman? Kevin Costner alone would be enough for me to look at in that movie.

As far as "Guilty Cinematic Pleasures" go I was sincerely grieved when my kids grew out of old Disney movies. I can watch any kind of horror without so much as a blink but when I see Bambi I melt all over my couch.

As I've alluded to a little, GI Joe. Also Blade 3 and Waterworld (featuring Tina Majorino as a child. I did not know that until this year)

Blade 3 at least wasn't as bad as the second one. And, I rather thought it was funny. I'm going to join the group that at least half-like Waterworld.

Aside from that if you want to see Shakespeare like it was NEVER meant to be played, take a look at Mel Gibson doing Hamlet. Completely horrible, and yet for whatever reason he does the speech well. *shrug* Oh and I'm a big fan of most of the old "B" horror films, like Ben and Willard.

Blade 2 was entertaining as hell, particularly being as how it featured Danny John-Jules, Ron Pearlman and Luke Goss with nary a fourth-wall breaking joke to be seen, but while RR was bitching as always in Blade Trinity, Jessica Biel and everything associated with her character stunk out loud. Don't make me go into it any further than "combat playlists"

I agree, Blade 2 was great! Best of the trilogy. I could go into how the story was more compelling, how the characters... other than Blade were more than cardboard cut-outs prancing around in borrowed bondage wear, but let's be honest: It was all about the A-Team of Vampire bad-asses! After that, it's all gravy.

And yes, even I can't lie about it... Blade 3 sucked, out loud. I was sooooo very disappointed in Jessica Biel. At this point, years later, I realize that I should have taken that as a hint and just gotten used to it.

Jessica Alba, on the other hand... (my eyes go unfocused and a silvery string of drool sides down my chin, dangling in the sunlight like a solid, tangible thread or durr) yeah, I'd drink her dirty bathwater. With a smile.

I didn't mean to shout. I'm sorry! -hugs-

and lol at that pic.

I saw one very similar. It had the head vampire from "30 days of night" and that kid side-by-side. Caption said, "THIS is a vampire!" under the 30 days guy, and "THIS is a douche-bag in a tree!" under the Twilight kid. hehehehe

Sadly, I can not express my loathing for Twilight in our house, I am very much shouted-down by both pet and Baby-domme. I will admite, I am curious to see how they treat werewolves, and the werewolf myth, in the next one. I'll try to ignore all the shirtless men... but I'm sure pet and B-D won't let me. :p

They tried to trick me into the whole Twilight thing. Held a book under my nose and said, "Look, see? It's a literary thing, like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. They just turned a book series into a movie. Read this, then we can go watch it." *Peanut laugh* Yeah right. Couldn't have picked two worse examples of why books should stay books.

Hey, I just thought of one that probably goes on the list. Total Recall, and I only like the movie because the novel is by my absolute favorite author. Although they completely mangled his beautiful prose.

I'll agree 100% with the Harry Potter bit. It's blatent that all those movies were ment to do was milk more cash out of that cow, and it's worked despite the terrible treatment each movie has given it's corresponding book.

LOTR's though... If nothing else, they tried, they tried like hell, to make good movies and to stay as true as they could to the text, and in many ways they succeeded, to me. They failed quite a few times too, but at least they cut Tom Bombodill the hell out of the movie! They get awesome points from me just for that. Sorry, that guy ranks really high up on my list of "most hated literary characters of all time".

That was a novel?! Who was the author?

One of my top 10 favorite movies is "Escape From New York." I don't care how stupid it is, it is an awesome movie, and I don't know anybody who's watched it and not enjoyed it. Snake Pliskin FTW!

Guy by the name of Piers Anthony. He's best known for the Xanth series, which I can't stand incidentally. But, I absolutely adore just about everything else he's written. And, for the record, if anybody can find out if the old codger's still alive I'd be much appreciative of the information.

Piers Anthony lives in Inverness, Florida and is alive and well.
I loved the Xanth series with all the double meanings of things. The Phaze series was my favorite though. I had forgotten he wrote Total Recall, and yes, it is one of my favorite movies. Love the "divorce" scene.

Thank you. I knew if he were alive, he'd still be in Inverness. I've actually been there. :D

Sounds like I'm out-voted, or perhaps shouted-down would be a better description. Ah well, different strokes ....

I think you all will appreciate a picture I saw the other day.

As a Twilight fan, I do not approve of this picture.

Shirtless men? In Twilight?? I saw the trailer for New Moon and there was only one shirtless man. I'm sure the good people who produce the films would not exploit the well-formed bodies of their actors in such a fashion. :D

In case my above comments are no indication, Twilight and all possible sequels are my choices for bad movies I can't help but love. More on the list: Mannequin 2: On the Move, and House Party.
