Mainstream fiction is rife with examples of adult-themed stories that include minor (underage) characters in completely nonsexual contexts. These underage roles can be supporting or used in flashback scenes as a means of character development for the protagonist et al later in their adult lives.

My question: Is it permissible at Literotica to include accounts and descriptions of underage characters in completely nonsexual contexts as stated above? Given the news of late, I seek feedback from the editors on this board before I include an underage character thusly.

Thank you.

Yes, you can have underage characters in non-sexual situations. I've seen a number of stories involving single parents, and I wrote one myself where the main character had a niece and nephew that she interacted with from time to time.

But keep in mind that a "sexual situation" is more than just sexual intercourse. It includes underage characters seeing others having sex, things like that. So you can't have a 14yo spying on his/her parents and describing the sex, for instance.

You can, though, include a quick reference to sexual activity, like "I lost my virginity at sixteen," or something like that, but don't include an explicit description.

What PL said. Adding, Laurel skims stories when moderating and sometimes a piece that follows those rules may get rejected by accident. If you are posting a story that has minors in non-sexual contexts, it wouldn't hurt to use the Notes field to say so, just to avoid the risk of having to resubmit.

I have another question regarding the inclusion of minor characters in completely nonsexual contexts. All over the globe there are clothing optional venues where children and adults frolic together naked under the sun. Photos of same are not considered to be child pornography and are legal posses and post online. They exist on scores of legitimate websites. It's also legal to post written accounts of same, both fiction and nonfiction. Does the editorial policy here at Lit allow descriptions of family-friendly naturism?

I am developing a story, historical fiction, that includes a scene where Native American women and children of all ages bathe together naked in a thermal pool. This is a scene ripped from reality; virtually every North American tribe did this, either in oceans, lakes, rivers, or hot springs depending on location. It's rooted in aboriginal culture.

In my story, the descriptions of minors are limited to generalities: height, hair color, expressions, behavior, and so forth. There are no descriptions whatsoever of private anatomy and certainly, no salacious verbiage is employed.

Before I proceed any further with my story, I would appreciate guidance from the editors here. Thank you.

For a definitive answer you should PM Laurel. But if it was my story, I'd be inclined to write the scene without specifying the nudity; just say "they were bathing in a hot pool" etc. etc.

I'd say no. You aren't posting to Ladies Home Journal here. This is, at the minimum, an erotica site, with a lot of porn here and readers coming here to read porn. You might ask yourself what your motivation is for writing such a story to post here. I think, if you're honest, your answer will pop out to you.

Another caution. I've written a couple stories with children in them. Really, it's hard to characterize someone as a parent if there's no child. They're also a convenient story-telling device. One of the first reactions I got on my first story was that people were made uncomfortable by having children in an erotic story, even if the children were in a completely nonsexual role.

Never have I, nor ever will I, be a purveyor of child porn. There isn't a hole in hell deep enough brimming with eternal torment for those who do. I endeavor to write stories that celebrate the spirit of this site, that live up to its name: Literature first, erotica second. When I have inspiration for a story, I develop the non-erotic elements first, start-to-finish, then add adult content in suitable locations. If not for copyright restrictions, I daresay any mainstream novel could be rendered X rated.

Omitting the Native American nude bathing scene won't neuter my story. But doing so will diminish its dimension.

Well, you've asked for guidance from those of us with a lot of experience in submitting stories to Literotica--and you got it.

Yeah, I think you can get around having to mention children bathing with adults in a hot pool.

"Today was different. All the children were off learning how to clean animal skins with the old ones. So today the hunters and gathers bathed in the pool without care or concern."

And you should read "Dream Drive" in Scifi/Fantasy if you think you need to have children swimming in a pool in order to give a sense of authentic tribal feel. That author has children running around, I'm fairly sure, but they are never in the narrative. I got an amazing sense of a "Native American" feel for the tribal people in his story.

Interesting - I had one that starts out in a primary school classroom and talks about the students in more than passing detail, and nobody complained about that issue.

My guiding star at LIT is to avoid children and pets...period. They invite disputes I don't want.
