I have a 10 chapter series. The next chapter is kind out outside my genre, and thought it would be cool to have a guest author for the chapter. Is that something that people do? Can it be done? Any volunteers?

If you want a response, you need to provide meaningful information.

1. What's the story about? What categories?
2. Has it been partially published? If so, provide a link to the story in your message, or your signature line.
3. What's the new category for which you need help?

As phrased, your query is far too vague to expect to get a response.

It can be done - it's a collaboration. I've done a few, but it's not for everyone.

But as Simon says, you're too vague.

I think the only way to get all the parts in one place is to publish them as a single author, or as a chain story, which has its own rules. Otherwise, the chapters authored under your name will be in your library, and the chapter(s) of other authorship would be in their library, not yours.

I do enough writing from someone else's outlines I don't really want to that for fun! The ridged adherence to their idea is the one thing I hate about ghostwriting. The check more than makes up for that drawback though.

With my collabs, we decided whose account would carry the whole story. The other writer then placed the first thousand or so words on their account, with a link at the end to the complete story. We coordinated the two submissions with Laurel, who joined them together.

It works well - the stories get two input streams.

Unless the guest author is okay with it going under the OP's name and having a note in the beginning of the story naming the guest author, then maybe another at the end thanking them and an appeal to the reader to go check out their work.

I'm trying to figure out why anyone writing a series would take it in-or want to go in-a direction that they seem to think they won't be able to write. To me, either give it a go, or just find another path to go down.
