So have tried to set up a series so I can begin the publication of my next novel on lit, albeit this time in chapter by chapter order.

I want to add an image to the series but it does not seem to save whatever edits I make on the series.

Am I missing something?

After you click save, are you clicking publish?
It's been a while, so I might be wrong but from memories the image has to be approved.
As mentioned by BobbyBrandt, it'll appear on the series page, where the series blurb is, not on the story.

Ah interesting, no, I have been clicking “save”. Maybe that’s where I am going wrong.

Yep, that’s what I am aiming for.

I don't see a series at all. I see two stories, one 9100 words, the other 6500 words. Both seem to be basically the same other than word count.

Wondered who had posted - look, you’re on ignore for obvious reasons.

My plan is to add in as part of this overall series individual chapters of the next novel to follow and am preparing for that.

The two stories in the series are one novel of 91,000 words and my short story Valentines Day Contest entry of 6500 words. They form a mostly coherent linear timeline one into the other.

Which you would know if you had bothered to read them instead of posting in this thread with the sole intention of trolling me.

Please do myself and everyone else a favour - just walk away, please. I haven’t time for your nonsense and neither does anyone else.

91k words

6.5k words

The lack of a decimal point blends in on the story pages and is hard to see (or not) for me.

But again, neither is showing as a series, so we can't see if there is an image or not.

Step one: Write a story
Step Two: Wait for your story to be published
Step Three: Create a series (manually) using the Series Manager tool, and add that story (and any others that are part of the series) to it
Step Four: Wait for the series to be published
Step Five: Upload an image for your series using the Series Manager tool
Step Six: Wait for your image to be approved

There are no shortcuts.

Your series IS NOT PUBLISHED. That might have something to do with it.
Ah so the image would appear with publishing?

So the image approval is separate? good to know.

Yes, and not a mandatory step. There are thousands of series with no image.

There is some question about how strictly AI images are governed on the site. All I can tell you is that both series where I have uploaded images, I created them using AI and they were approved without any issue.

My images were approved over three years ago, so oversight might be tougher now. Just be forewarned.

Good to know. Thank you for this.

Unfortunately, I can't remember how it worked, but the image upload is quirky. I'd make sure absolutely everything else is entered as you wish it, saved, and then try for the image. If it keeps giving you trouble, just move on and don't add one. I strongly suspect that with the new policies on images that they're going to remove the cover images from all manual series eventually anyway. I was honestly surprised that it hasn't happened yet.

Isn't it also true that the series has to be approved?

The instructions above make it sound like an author can just create a manual series and immediately move on to the subsequent steps. Is that right? I feel like mine had to be approved first.

It has been 2 years so memory could fail (more likely) or the process could have changed (less likely). Or neither.

You can do the other pieces (including stories to it) but it won't show up to readers as a series until its approved.
