Growing as a writer or just tired of sex?

In my last two stories posted on Lit: Abigail Slaughter and Hunting Dawn (exclusively available from Literotica.) I've found myself shying away from actual sex scenes.

The first example concentrates mainly on the characterisation and a passionate scene without sex.

The second has sudden incidental sex (a hand job) and centres around two secondary dream-like figures. (this is the Earth Day contest entry so vote early and often)

So what's happened to the sex? I've been accused of putting in too much sex in stories before now but these last two have virtually none at all. What gives?

I know the feeling. I have thought with several of my stories that the sex was a bolt-on that could be removed.

I think it is a sign of development and wanting to explore new forms.

You may get an inspiration for a story that is all about the sex and write a great one. The next one may have no sex at all. Why not? Just go with the flow and write what you want to write.

I took the sex out of one of my stories and entered it for a local literary competition. You could enter 3 stories. I'd written 2 but inspiration wasn't coming for a third so I entered the de-sexed story. It came third in the competition, irritating my creative writing tutor whose only entry was unplaced. My stories composed especially for the contest were also unplaced.

Gauche, your examples are what I would pronounce Erotica. Your earlier stories are more than that, though erotic too. Just keep writing well. I can imagine a serial or novel coming forth from that delightful farm and its characters in your contest entry. Too much or too little sex? Nah, just good writing, whether satirical, humourous or stroke.

As you know, in my novel about my grandmothers I gave them very interesting, even meaningful, sex lives. It came naturally, as the writing was not meant for Lit. There is real sexual subtext in much of my poetry too; it just comes, so to speak.

I've been through the same type of thing.

I think it's probably a combination of both. Later you'll just want to write smut again:)

If I get bored with the sex, I know it's time to do something besides writing.

On the other hand, the interaction between the characters is very important to me and the sex has to grow out of that interaction, or I'm not satisfied with the story.

Just another sign of ageing (or if you are American, aging). It goes with varicose veins and (on men) sagging tits.

Older, yet have great interest.......

Gauche, haven't had the chance to get desexed yet. Not looking for it anytime soon.

As most have said, it comes from inside, at that moment to meet your objectives of the story. Write it. Describe the characters, events, as they are real to you! We read your material for the enjoyment of your stories. The ability you have keeps us coming back, with or without explicit sex scenes.

I often read my favorite authors, but because of time, spend less time reading the general public authors. If an "H" has been achieved, I may take a quick look to read an intro to the story. But my list of preferred authors get a full read.

Good, bad, or indifferent, all our stories have varying degrees of sex. The next one may start with multiple partners attending a bridal shower, each pleasing the bride to be......... and then digress into lifelong boring monogamy, with a hint of self gratification when required.

Gauche,

You write good stories. If you feel like exploring other venues & genres by all means do so. If you find yourself tinkering with the sex scenes, working away from explicit and towards more erotic, go for it. You have the talent to write what you want. If your muse is in an experimental mood, just follow her lead :)
