Group category - anal expected?

I've done two group stories and one I/T that featured a lot of group sex. I've received comments on all about the lack of anal sex. This one today.

Now, with the introduction of Adriana, Trish, Coral, and AJ there tended to become too many protagonists in a story without a DP . . . .

Now I don't write anal sex at all. It's not my thing and my wife and I have never been interested. A major ick for both of us. But I enjoy group sex stories and will write more of them.

So I ask you, as writers or at least consumers of stories in the Group Sex category, do you feel that anal is expected? Or if readers want it, they should be in that category. Inquiring minds want to know.

For starters, in hetero sex, DP doesn't have to involve anal.

And beyond that, each comment is by only one reader from a large disparate group, and, conversely, no one can speak for all (or much of any part) of the group. All you're going to get is a varied sample of opinions, not any sort of consensus.

I’ve written a load of group sex, but - maybe strangely - only one story actually in that category (others ended up in Fetish or BDSM).

It kinda depends on the group sex. If it’s two couples then anal or not is just a matter of their preferences. If it’s more of a multiple guys, one girl, scenario, then anal might be more likely to be assumed.

As for DPs, as I’ve said before, I never got on with them. Though others have kindly said we must have just been doing it wrong. For me at least, this is one area in which porn and RL diverge.

I read and write a fair amount of group sex stories. While anal/DP does feature heavily in my own group scenes, it's not in all of it. As a reader, I couldn't imagine being mad if anal wasn't in a group scene. As a reader, it can be a fun bonus but it's definitely not intrinsic to the category.

I wouldn't worry about comments like that. For every commenter who whines about the lack of anal in a group scene, there are going to plenty more readers who get off on the group dynamics without caring at all for the lack of butt stuff.

There are a few complainers. Not enough to significantly impact your numbers in my experience. I rarely include it outside the category for it.

There are just as many people who are completely squicked by anal, and are relieved it's not there.

The MMC and swinger party host has a house rule about "no anal" due to an episode several years prior to the current party. In that past event there was an impromptu DP challenge, and nobody took care to wash themselves off, resulting in unmanageable levels of E.coli bacteria in the communal hot tub.

It's briefly mentioned as a squick for the FMC; the MMC is characterized as "open-minded", but still says "no" in the setting he is responsible for because of the hygiene and general sanitation issues.

The gay and bi men complain a little, but are understanding.

Yeah, we've talked about that. In a house party setting of 25-30 people, however, it's just easier to say "no, because..." than putting up cleaning protocol posters in all the bedrooms and policing who did or didn't scrub their parts.

Yes, but commenters themselves are few to start with, so I'm wondering if the complainers represent a larger group and we just don't know it because so few people bother to complain at all.

But I think you are right in any case. I was just curious.

I've seen no evidence of them representing a silent group. If there were a lot of them, it would hurt your numbers in the category, and I just don't see it.

From what I've seen, there are nearly as many people complaining about anal being included. ( Including the weirdos who claim it's suppressed homosexuality ) When you combine that with the people who are sticklers complaining about hygiene, Ass to(whatever), & preparation, they probably outnumber the people lamenting the lack of backdoor action.

Then there's the bulk of the readers who don't care either way.
