Green Day rocks.

When I was younger I got to buy 'Dookie' just because it was kinda 'in' at that moment. I liked the two popular songs at that time. Then a couple of years later I found the CD somewhere in the basement. I listened to it and discovered that the album rocked. I mean there literally was no song that I didn't like.

The only complaint that I had with them was that all their songs on 'Dookie' semeed to sound pretty much alike. No real different styles.

Now I bought 'American Idiot' and it also rocks. Again great songs (only now there are one or two I don't really care about that much) but this time they seem to have solved their 'style-problem'. Various dufferent songs on this one. Very good albums.

Any comments on this? Is anyone with me?

I LOVE American Idiot. The lyrics are cool enough, but the tune rocks!

I have the radio on a lot here and that song was playing the other day, my youngest daughter turned to me and asked, "Mummy, are all Americans idiots?"

I then went on to explain to her that no, they weren't, not really. The song was saying that it's the media brainwashing them (I then had to explain what both "media" and "brainwash" meant). We were chatting for a while and she got really into the discussion, then said, "George Bush is a bit funny though, isn't he." LOL! ;)

Political views of a six year old. :D

I've heard 'American Idiot' too and I think you're right. They've definitely matured as a band. The songs just seem a lot tighter and musically stronger. 'Dookie' is a freakin' great pop punk album, probably one of the best ever. 'Dookie' wasn't the first I'd heard of Green Day, but during that time, it was certainly one of the biggest things happening in alternative(or whatever you want to call it). That album is very much a part of the soundtrack of my life at the time. It was sort of a guilty pleasure of the oh- so-indie people I hung out with then. They all pronounced it a sell-out piece of crap, but everyone knew it really rocked.

I 'discovered' Greenday about a year ago. I'd just heard "Time of your life" on the radio (as a golden oldie). I'd heard my sons talk about Greenday and the songs partition on the hard disk was bursting with their tunes, along with NiN, BikeRideRadio, Preachers, Rage, Pixies etc.

So I ran upstairs and asked eldest son about this great new song that I'd just heard and he (guitar already in hand) said "Oh you mean this." And played it word and tune perfect and made me cry. "That's ages old, no one listens to them anymore."

I even made him play it at his own birthday bash (5 local punk bands, two of them having sons) on the promise that he would never have to play it for me again.

Still one of my all time favourite songs.

Yeah, and I was one of the indier-than-thou crowd, thank you Scarlett. And I love Dookie more than ever. Call it a case of arrested development but when I hear that bass line of "When I Come Around", I'm what, twenty again?

Do you have the time, to listen to me whine...?

I'll have to agree. It's a damn good tune. Until I heard TYOL, Green Day was just another annoying punk rock band trying to merge a teeny 'alt' image with Bad Religion style rock. Then I went back and discovered a few gems from earlier on.

I am so out of it re. pop culture, but any song Gauche recommends is worth my time. I shall let my 13 year old niece know about these people.
