Didn't wait too long.

Granddaughter was already born when I wrote that - no one had told the new grandfather. Born 9.02am weighing 9lbs 1oz (Ouch!)

Will probably see new family member this afternoon.

Og

PS. She's blonde and probably left-handed. Both parents are lefties.
Congrats!! :nana: :nana: :nana:

As has been so wisely said, Grandkids are Gods reward for not killing your kids. Congratulations Og, and enjoy.

Thank you for this thread.

I will probably see the new granddaughter this evening.

The phone is constantly ringing with the other daughters rearranging their Christmas visits.

The other (paternal) grandparents are dog and cat sitting for the new parents. This is their 3rd/4th grandchild and our 1st.

Og

Congrats, Og! :)

Don't forget to spoil the young'un terribly every chance you get. After all, you can hand this one back over at the end of the day. ;)

Christmas Eve in the supermarket

My wife works on one of the counters in our local large supermarket. Our son-in-law rang before she left for work to say that the baby was on the way and agreed to ring her at work when the new granddaughter arrived.

My wife told the store's telephone operator what sort of call she was expecting. When son-in-law rang five minutes after the store opened for business and with a long queue by the counter, the store's loudspeakers announced '(Wife's name)', it's the call you've been waiting for. My wife rushed to answer the call.

When she relayed the birth to her colleagues, they stopped serving to hug her. The queueing customers gave her three cheers. That puzzled customers in other parts of the store, so the loudspeakers announced that '(Wife's name)' on the **** counter had just become a grandmother for the first time.

More cheers. My wife spent most of the rest of her shift accepting congratulations from the regular customers.

Christmas Eve in the supermarket was a happy smiling place.

That made me smile too!!!

Congrats Og. :rose: You'll be a great grandfather. You're cuddly and huggable - that's all you need.

Great story, Og.

My wife's birthday is also today. She's Jewish so it was no big deal for her growing up, then she married a redneck whose mother was born 12/22. Then our first born came along 12/15. Three birthdays plus Christmas within ten days. The local loan shark and I would become well-acquainted in December.

Congrats, Ogg. :)

My grand daughter was born a few months ago. I don't feel very grandmotherly though.

:) Welcome to the old timer's ranks, Ogg, congratulations to all...

Quoting myself? What next? I got something wrong. The other grandparents had two when I posted earlier. They now have three, thanks to my daughter. By the end of today or early tomorrow they will have four. Their other daughter-in-law's waters broke 2 hours after my granddaughter was born. The other child, the new-born's cousin, will be (or already is depending on information arrival) a boy.

I have visited mum and granddaughter and have held the baby. The midwife commented on my practised hold - after three daughters and a few greatnephews/nieces I should know how to hold a newborn.

The new uncle, when sent mobile phone pictures of his new niece, commented:

"She looks just like a real person, but smaller."

Og

Uncle's can be real weird.

That's a fine looking filly, Og. Congratulations again.

It would be extra special if her cousin doesn't fool around and shows up today. Something tells me that from now on, the holidays are going to be even more hectic for your family.

Useless camera, useless photographer

I've lent my decent digital camera to the proud father and was using an £8.00 (sixteen dollar) digital with no preview screen.

This is the best I could do.

She looks like she's going to have you wrapped around her little finger, Og. :D

Congrats, Og! :nana:

She looks gorgeous

She is. She dealt with being held by her grandparents with aplomb. She waited until I was holding her the second time before filling her nappy. She seemed to know that granddad wouldn't drop her when she writhed and pooped.

I could then hand her back to her mother and aunt to deal with the mess.

Og ;)
