Shades of former President Ronald Reagan, Governor Sarah Palin, spoke from the heart, without prompters or a written speech and outlined the course for the Conservative side of politics for the next three years.

Love her or hate her and there seems to be no middle ground, she voiced the basic creed that has made America, America, for centuries. Just what role she will play in politics over the coming months and years remains unknown, but the country is hungry for someone to speak of the core American values so despised by the Left and the Media in general.

Interesting development and one that swamped the media on all cable channels for the past few hours.

perhaps ms. palin heard how ms madoff finished her stay, in her mansion apartment.

a videotape of her announcement is at

love that basketball analogy, and look forward to the 'full court press at the national level". as Mencken said, there is no show on earth like US politics!

coincidentally, a long critical article on Palin, in Vanity Fair, is just out. written by purdum.

Subject to vicious, personal attacks from the left, their forte sans issue oriented criticism, Governor Palin has simply sidestepped the criticism that took time to rebut as Governor, she is now free to travel about the country, aiding the Conservative cause, with or without announcing for office.

As described by one pundit, she dribbled around her opponents and scored an easy 'lay-up', a little sports analogy from basketball.(where she was, incidentally, known as, "The Barracuda" in her high school years on the court.)

:)

Anyone who thinks there's not another shoe to drop in this story hasn't been paying very close attention to this freakshow up until now.

yep!

Sounded like the babbling of a deranged . . . uh . . . deranged whatever . . . and who cares . . . just hope this doesn't bring on a moose, wolf, animal slaying expedition . . . she ought to be put in a gymnasium with a pack of hungry wolves with the same weapons they have . . .

Like it or not, the Palin resignation has occupied the news on the Holiday eve and political operatives from all sides are trying to figure it all out.

All they had to do is listen to what she said. She will move into a national debate concerning basic American values and support candidates in both the off year elections in 2010 and support whomever is nominated in 2012.

Democrats are scared to death as the new administration has failed in every aspect of their agenda and itself predicted that unemployment will run over 10 percent for the next year at least and the House and Senate seats up for election in 2010 will be up for grabs and Palin will be on the road with her unique style and unusual populist appeal to middle America.

A shrewd and calculated move by the Governor. You go girl~!

No speculation why she's stepping down? :)

I am going to stick my neck out and speculate. I believe she will run against a Republican incumbent, Lisa Murkowski, for the Senate in 2010. That's a prediction, you understand, not a pronouncement of fact. Remember, you heard it here first.

That means she will have to start collecting money and making alliances, things that are hard to do while a sitting governor.

ETA: The primary will be held in late August, and she will probably not formally announce until after the first of the year, but she will be campaigning beginning next month.

I repeat, this is strictly a prediction.

My speculation would be that she will spearhead the 2010 House and Senate election campaigns that will even out the Party numbers in Congress and then be selected as the Vice Presidential Candidate to Governor Haley Barbour from Mississippi in 2012.

The current occupant of the White House will be a "One hit Wonder' ala Peanuts Carter.

Florida's governor might as well resign. He's all but missing in action. We have so many money problems he's leaving office after one term.

I suspect Palin may see the handwriting on the wall, too.

Alaska has no money problems, because of oil, and
Sarah Palin is very popular there. I believe she wants to become more of a national figure, and she can so better in the Senate than in the Alaska governor's mansion. Or igloo. She believes she can beat the incumbent and beat the Dem. candidate and be ready to challenge for the presidency in 2012 or 2016.

Time will tell if her heart is pure and she is stepping down solely to spearhead the 2010 campaigns as a prelude to becoming VP to Barbour. Seems others think she is gearing up for a presidential run.

Call me a cynic, but it appears she's smart enough to bail out when the time is right. For other reasons.

You may be correct. Everyplace else in America is going to Hell quickly, but Alaska may be different.

my speculation

is that she's trying to avoid the problem blagovitch had. let's assume she will NOT face any criminal proceedings.

she could face the legislature in investigations and (not sure of the Alask constitution) possible impeachment. this way, all that is avoided. 'misconduct' and 'misappropriation' become largely moot.

i *love* this whole thing. the woman was launched and sold by rush limbaugh, seized by mccain in a 'hail mary' move, and continues a comet's progress upward in God's firmament. blessed by ami. the perfect 'know nothing'; hadn't ever spent time outside the US. vague on geography.

i suspect too, we'll be hearing that a message from God was involved in this move.

Just a thought to those who have wondered: I used to live in AK, and many of my best friends still do. Do we know the lieutenent governer who's replacing her? I hear, according to my friends, he is not a "likeable" person. Even in AK standards.

I don't believe there is any major scandal involving her. There is the "troopergate" molehill that some are trying to make into a mountain, but nothing else.

Do you always make disparaging remarks about people's faiths?

Love her or hate her and there seems to be no middle ground, she voiced the basic BULLSHIT that REPUBLICANS HAVE TRIED TO MAKE PEOPLE BELIEVE has made America, America, for centuries. Fixed your post for you Ami! That's okay... you don't need to thank me... ;)

I seem to recall that in 2008 Todd Palin's former business partner filed to seal the records of his own divorce, an unusual step. There was some scuttlebutt that said partner had had an affair with Sarah Palin.

Resigning her governorship isn't going to help her one whit come 2012, when her resume will include two terms as mayor of a small town and a half-term as governor of a low-population state. All it would take for an opponent is... "she quit her duties as governor of alaska, "she was not fit for leadership, how can we allow her to be leader of america, she'll just quit again..." Something more is going on here.

Palin has infused cordial local politics with divisive, hot-button national issues over which she has no control. I've been party to a number of local elections...I've never seen abortion pop up in any of them. Does a good-hearted person threaten or fire her underlings for not kowtowing to her personal vindictive, ideological, or possibly even illegal whims? I can think of few people in American politics today worthy of more ridicule and less emulation. That includes Sanford.

She's an appalling embarrassment, would be a disastrous commander and chief and everyone fricken knows it. Every Republican knows it. Including John McCain who should feel enough burning shame to turn a continent into a cinder at the moment for even considering the rambling, incoherent, ignorant, worthless twit. The act of nominating Sarah Palin as a running mate should be considered an act of high fucking treason. All the Bin Laden's in the world wouldn't be remotely as dangerous as her in the White House.

Repubs should just drop this shit. Find a winner and back him or her. Surely the Republicans have someone people can support with a straight face and clear conscience.

Gossip about adultery would certainly not represent any kind of actionable offense. I was responding to a post that suggested impeachment or other legislative action.

If, as I predicted, she runs for the Senate next year, this will be of no matter. People frequently quit one office to accept or run for another. Obama, for instance, resigned his Senate seat after he was elected president.

Did the question of anti-abortion actually come up when Palin was running for city council or mayor. I have never heard anything about either of those elections. As for a statewide election, abortion laws can be a legit issue in them.

Chief executives often fire those who disagree with them. Was the director of public safety a civil service position, or was he appointed by the gov. If the latter, he served at her pleasure and she could fire him for almost anything she wanted, especially not doing his job. Do you have any reliable evidence , not gossip or anonymous report, that the firing was illegal in any way?

Okay, now you are just ranting.

Up to now, Palin has generally been a winner. The losing VP or Lieut. governor candidate is not usually looked on as the loser. That is attributed to the top of the ticket. What elections has she lost besides those?

Us Demos could only hope she spearheads (deadheads) the 2010 campaign (we could save millions, uh, billions in campaign bucks...

I don't think she will, but I don't really know. As I said, I expect her to run for the Senate, first against an incumbent of her own party and then against the Dem. candidate, assuming she wins the primary.
