So, you buy a house years and years ago. Every house that is bought and sold a has the stamp of govt all over it at every transaction.

When you bought it, it never had been flooded out by weather and runoff. In fact, the farther you go back, and this holds true for the vast majority of houses, 100 year storms were unheard of and you figured someone might tell you if you where at risk, in the flood plain or in the watershed that leads to the flood plain.

Meanwhile, face forward two decades and a whole lot of development, building, impervious surfaces have been constructed, bought and sold, again...all with the stamp of govt on all of it.

So, last week we had two very localized thousand year storm events...which is starting to sound to me like the folks who are selling this idea want the money they have to stay I their pockets....it is starting to sound like an excuse.

Govt and builders know where the flooding is gonna happen...it's their business to know. They out the stamp of approval on all this stuff don't they?

So, who is gonna pay for folks who have been flooded out repeatedly and have no way of recovering, no way of selling their houses now because they are condemned or just not worth any value anymore due to the repetitive and recurring "weather events" that are the new normal of climate change.

Who is going to pay?

Many Deplorable Dumbfucks have the same myopic view of climate change as they do of Covid. They think because it isn't an instant extinction level event, that the long protracted suffering, costs, and delayed death aren't that big of a deal and don't require an immediate unified response based on the best science available.

We're already reaping what we have sown form our poor stewardship of this planet.

SAD!!!

Wouldn't Republicans want the government to keep its nose out of this from the get go--not even have inspection standards at the beginning? Isn't "buyer beware and developer buy the cheapest willing labor possible, experienced or not" Republican principles? I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the developers building developments on shaky ground were Republicans anyway. Isn't this how the worshipped Donald Trump did it? He was a developer.

I can see why it gets under your skin. But he's right, the Republicans have been fighting for decades to roll back any and all regulations on business, and among the many likely results of that is increased risk of flooding in people's homes. As for what we don't need here, there are at least two high-profile members of this community who accuse progressives of hating America almost every time they post, in large part because we support sensible regulations on business. Swim with the sharks or get out of the tank.

Thats some serious Right fragility on display there.

Dom70 is triggered AF by the truth.

SAD!!!

I don't know who Governor Wolf is or what region you're talking about, but several areas have had flooding recently including Detroit and Flagstaff.

I saw a story yesterday that Paradise CA is being threatened by a wildfire ... the same town that was wiped out a couple of years ago. Why the hell did they rebuild in the same place?

If BoomBoom ever owned a home, it would know that standard homeowners doesn't cover rising water and that you need special flood plan insurance.

I guess.you don't understand how home insurance.works....did.you ever own a home and read a policy?

Yes I understand how insurance (and reinsurance) works, and yes, my house is insured and the policy includes flood damage. Federal disaster relief funds typically play a role in natural disasters as well.

Flood insurance:

So costly these days most folks cannot afford it... especially if you live down stream in a flood plain. (Which govt has given blessings on to this day)

Flood insurance only pays for certain things...do you know in most cases it is less costly to pay for your own replacement. Flood insurance.is so costly in so many cases that one years premiums can often equal the cost of replacing a water heater and heat/ac system.

That said, again, most folks can't afford either option.

Who will pay? After hurricane Sandy, hundreds, if not a thousand homes were just abandoned....due to homeowners unable to pay to repair or get compensation? From who is my question?

Govt subsidizes loans only.... they somehow seem to feel folks are on their own...inspire of signing off on these homes in areas now prone to flooding disaster's.

Who gonna pay?

Fair enough. I don’t live in a flood plain or anywhere near a coastal zone, lake, damn, or big river so I don’t think about it. No argument that urban plans, zoning policies, and building codes should factor in potential damage from natural disasters such as flooding, wildfires, and hurricanes.

We have a place in Florida, right on the beach. A 10-minute drive around will show palatial houses going for millions, right on the shore, just a couple of feet above sea level.

These folks don't seem too concerned about the seas rising.

You're the dumbfuck! climate changes all the time. You should perhaps get yourself up to speed with the science before spouting off your bullshit. You're a cult follower.

Neither is Obama who just purchased a nice lot on Martha's Vineyard.

I've been trying to gat one of these places for pennies on the dollar, telling the owners they'll be under water in a matter of years, but they aren't buying my dire predictions.

Pud is on a roll today.

Two of the most ignorant posts I have ever read on the PB just crawled the few inches from Pud's brain to his asshole and were deposited as a couple piles of steaming horseshit.

SAD!!!

If they can afford a mansion, they can afford to absorb the losses if necessary. And they're probably as dumb as they are rich and don't realize the danger they're in.
