Well I tried to install a game on my computer and it turns out I no longer have my CD-ROM or CD-RW drives anymore. So I went to anti-virus.com and it says I have the Anticmos.A* virus in the boot memory. Now its telling me to do this: A computer virus has been found in the computer's memory.
Continuing to use your computer may cause file loss and/or other damage.
Turn your computer off and reboot using a non-infected bootable diskette.
Use your backup copy of DOS mode scanner to remove the virus(es).

Just how exactly do I reboot using a non-infected bootable diskette? Everytime I put in a blank disk it says something along the lines of this isn't a system disk and remove it and hit anykey to continue. What do I have to do to get my CD-ROM and CD-RW drives back?! HELP!

Ummm....you need to use a system boot disk, Not a blank disk. You should have one, either that you've made or that came with your computer.

First thing to do is calm down!

Now tell us what are you running on tour computer? win98se or what?

what anti-virus peogram do you have and do you have your disk up to date?

98SE.

And no really anti-virus that actully works. But I downloaded the free one from antivirus.com and that seems to be pretty good, but that is what is telling me to get a system disk or whatever.

You don't have an AV running at all times?

What kind of computer do you have? It should have come with a recovery disk of some sort.

I'm pretty sure it did come with a recovery disk...but I don't know where it is. Been looking for it and I can't find it. :(

Well that is probably your only hope. If you don't have some sort of AV to remove it. You will have to redo your computer. You might be able to contact the manufactuer of your computer and get a replacement disk.

you can get drivers even if you have to open your cpu and read the brand names and model numbers

www.drivershq.com/

lets see what we can do about your virus first

Ya, need to do the virus first. I think the virus is what made my CD-ROM and CD-RW go bye bye.

Making a Boot Disk isn't tough.

Start ----> Control Panel ---> Add/Remove Programs ----> Startup Disk

Follow the instructions from there. Run the virus scanner on the startup disk to make sure it's clean. If it is, stick it in the drive, then reboot your machine. It should boot to DOS. Run the DOS version of the virus scanner. Wait until it's done, then reboot and see what you have then.

That's about the best way I can think to do it, short of calling in a professional.

But don't I need the start up disk from the time BEFORE I got the virus?

If i was in your shoes i would get rid of what ever anti virus program you have and go to the norton web site and down load

norton 2002 for a free trial!

you may have to replace the drivers if you can.

I hope you find your windows disk or your restore disk!

pm me with your e-mail adddress and i will send you everything you need to know about installing or reinstalling windows 98se
including including some doss stuff about getting rid of virus

you can get a 98se boot disk from a web site i will look for the infro.

i think it is somthing like www.bootdisk.com or somthing like that.

Oh and I just tried making a start up disk, but it wants me to insert my win 98 cd...kinda hard to do it now...

Jim, I thought of that also. But I thought that the virus would go onto that disk also.

I could be wrong.. I'm still learning how to repair these things.

www.bootdisk.com

although how your going to get this onto a floppy on your computer is going to take going and getting a driver. forcing your computer into what would the safemode help or can he get into doss from there?

I don't see what I need to find at that site...got a direct link to the page?

Or here is something I was thinking about...
What if I just unplug my cd-rom while the computer is off...reboot...shut down...plug it back in and it should dectect it. Shouldn't it work?

Bump, still need help. :(

From the comments you've made so far, I think your best option is to take your computer to a computer repair shop and let them remove the virus for you.

Another option is to check with a friend and see if you can borrow an emergency boot disk with a virus scanner on it. Any bootable floppy you create on your machine now is going to be infected as well.

hehe sorry babe. But I am GOD! I found a boot up disk that I made a while ago and deleted the virus and the cd-rom and cd-rw came back. WOO mother fucking HOOOOOO!
