Gordon Parks Dies at 93

He used to come to Detroit a lot to give speeches, and there was also an exhibition of his photos at the DIA (Detroit Institute of Arts) a few years back. Great stuff.

There was one photo that really stood out from the others in my mind; it featured a black woman who made her living as a janitor, and she stood in front of the American flag with a broom in one hand and a mop in the other. Her eyes seemed to say, "Isn't the American Dream supposed to include me, too? Where's my dream?"

Anyway, if anyone's interested in looking at Mr. Parks' work, here's a link:

He directed "The Learning Tree," and "Shaft." The orginal Shaft, I mean.

Bump!

Here are the 60 Wackiest Covers of Life Magazine, and one of them was done by Gordon Parks (August 2, 1954 issue):

And here's the image itself.
