This is constantly used in reference to politics/elections and I find it continually annoying and potentially misleading.

Government Of Power. Fine, its a whimsical little acronym but is it necessary? No. Is it helpful? No. In fact it makes things odd if one reads an article from years ago and is unsure what was the current GOP.

Some headlinea re reading "GOP takes back Senate". Why not simply say that the republicans took back the Senate?

Is there any reason to use this term? ... any advantage?

Does it bother anyone else?
