GOP delays coronavirus bill in part over complaints
that it doesn't bar federal funds for abortion

March 12, 2020

Among the Republicans' hangups are a provision that would provide
paid sick leave to workers, NBC News reported, and a complaint
about an unrelated issue: abortion.

"The White House believes provisions in the Pelosi bill that pertain
to the Violence Against Women Act could open the door to federal
funds for abortion," the network reported." In response, the White
House wants to add Hyde Amendment language to the bill —
restricting the use of federal funds for abortion."

Ilyse Hogue, the head of NARAL Pro-Choice America, said
the White House claims were a "straight up lie."

"The fact that the GOP would use the [coronavirus pandemic] to
spread more falsehoods and grind an ideological ax is sickening
and perverse," she said.

Planned Parenthood accused Republicans of using the COVID-19
pandemic to score political points.

"Using this very real public health emergency to attack abortion
coverage shows a despicable lack of concern about the severity
of this crisis," the organization said. "These politicians will do
anything to advance their anti-abortion agenda."

No problem with the DNC hyping up as much panic as possible about it to demonize Orange Hitler though!!! That's totally good to go.

It's a matter of priorities, and Republican priorities obviously value restricting abortion as more important than silly little "hoax viruses".

Nancy Pelosi is struggling to get relief package on the table

A senior House Republican lawmaker, speaking on the condition
of anonymity, said Trump's demand for a payroll tax cut as part
of this legislative package — which could cost hundreds of billions
of dollars — has been the sticking point.

delivers his own set of remarks (late, again) in the Rose Garden.

(oh, look at the boot-lickers praising Orange Clown on national TV!)

"Moscow Mitch' McConnell is taking the weekend off-

While McConnell has pushed for passage of a House bill to reform
FISA, he faces objections from Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) & Mike Lee
(R-Utah). Senate leaders asked members Thursday morning if they
would support a 45-day extension. Paul told reporters he could
support the short-term extension, but only if leaders allowed
for an open amendment process.

With the Senate leaving for the weekend on Thursday afternoon,
the FISA provisions will likely expire. But a return to Washington
next week will give the chamber the ability to reduce the amount
of time the provisions will lapse.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) slammed McConnell
for sending senators home for the weekend.

FBI Surveillance Measures Appear Likely To Expire With GOP Opposition

March 12, 2020

The authorities, which the intelligence community says are
critical to national security, are set to lapse on Sunday without
action by Congress. The Senate adjourned on Thursday evening
until Monday without resolving the matter, signaling that the
surveillance tools will likely expire.

The three authorities up for renewal are called the business records
provision, the roving wiretap provision and the lone wolf provision.
Law enforcement officials say they're an important part of the toolkit
they need to monitor or intercept would-be terrorists.

So let me get this straight. Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump are
ok ballooning our debt for tax cuts to line the pockets of millionaires
and billionaires, but they're not willing to help working Americans
survive a global pandemic?
