I do use Gmail. It is fast. The interface is minimal. That *G* in the name makes me tingle.

The ads, however, scare me.

I mailed myself some story scraps, ideas I keep for a time when I can develop them, and I got the following ad:

Basic Rules of Punctuation

They make me laugh-- especially with the topics I discuss as a writer. If I quote dialogue like "Good God, your prick is huge! "

I get ads for bible studies, sewing supplies and weight-reduction plans-- all at once. It can be suddenly surreal.

I get the "save your soul" ads as well. What cracks me up is imagining the other side - the bible thumpers deciding each keywords will get each ad.

if ("theme" == "sodomy" ) ...

IF I get bored this afternoon I may have to play with Gmail and see what I can come up with :D

it is freaky and sick. loss of privacy. all the assurances of 'gathering data by categories, no personal, identifying data' are bogus, within a short while. this is not unlike the 'tracking cookies' issue.

I have to use it sometimes.

My regular e-mail often won't let me send submissions to publishers. It claims they're spam and kicks them back to me. I suspect it's because the attachments are rtf files with a lot of sexual content in them. ;)

Gmail doesn't give me any back talk.

It is because of the *G*.
