...Google has succeeded where Genghis Khan, communism and Esperanto all failed: It dominates the globe. Though estimates vary by region, the company now accounts for an estimated 87 percent of online searches worldwide. It processes trillions of queries each year, which works out to at least 5.5 billion a day, 63,000 a second. So odds are good that sometime in the last week, or last hour, or last 10 minutes, you’ve used Google to answer a nagging question or to look up a minor fact, and barely paused to consider how near-magical it is that almost any bit of knowledge can be delivered to you faster than you can type the request. If you’re old enough to remember the internet before 1998, when Google was founded, you’ll recall what it was like when searching online involved AltaVista or Lycos and consistently delivered a healthy dose of spam or porn. (Pity the early web enthusiasts who innocently asked Jeeves about “amateurs” or “steel.”)...

In other words, it’s very likely you love Google, or are at least fond of Google, or hardly think about Google, the same way you hardly think about water systems or traffic lights or any of the other things you rely on every day. Therefore you might have been surprised when headlines began appearing last year suggesting that Google and its fellow tech giants were threatening everything from our economy to democracy itself.

There's another Internet scam out there. It may be old news, but it's a first for me. I have no idea how they got through my security, however a flash message will show up. proclaiming a "GOOGLE INTERNET SECURITY ALERT with the fine print proclaiming that my bank account(s) have been hacked.

It wasn't difficult to figure out the scam, because the message insisted that the recipient call a 'Microsoft" number, @ (888)-XXX-XXXX.

Anyway, just a head up to anyone who may not be aware.

I'd just like to know how they got through Norton and my VPN.

How many promises of "free forever" were made in order to lure the patsies into various internet services?


How many Yahoo! email accounts were created by users who subsequently discovered that "free and forever" actually meant being bombarded with advertisements? How many Yahoo! email users found out that the only way to avoid the annoying advertisements was to pay extortion?


How many promises of "free forever" image storage services were subsequently subjected to size limitations or incessant advertising ?


How many Amazon users have been conned into paying a fee for what used to be free ?




How many Gaggle email users still don't comprehend that the price of "free forever" actually means having your email messages read and the information used to sell you stuff.


How many Gaggle search engine users still haven't figured out that using Gaggle means Big Brother gets to spy on you without limitation?


How many Gaggle users don't understand that they've completely surrendered any hope of ever regaining any privacy?

Google is part of the endgame of the capitalist internet. It started wild and free with hobbyists. Now it's a few global corporate giants serving the net equivalent of fast food. The tremendous energy use of the giants (including government surveillance agencies) guarantee their end, but while they fight to keep their gadgets running, other stuff may be blacked out.

It's a big state but haven't met you yet. I am here for an hour or two as I pass through at 70 mph.
