WTF?
A Google genius [engineer] was in a coma Wednesday night after a rotting branch snapped off a tree in Central Park and smashed him in the head. Sasha Blair-Goldensohn was walking to work through the park when a 100-pound limb came crashing from a massive pin oak tree near W. 63rd St. The 33-year-old computer engineer and father of two was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center after the 8 a.m. accident and was in intensive care.

...After the accident, the Parks Department inspected trees in the area and found them to be in good shape - except for the corroded branch that fell. "The limb was removed and found to be dead and rotted," the agency said in a statement.

What exactly is your point?

Trees shouldn't fall on google execs? God should know better than take out an alpha male in his prime? Life sucks?

Through our troubled passage through life we meet (close or far) tales of the most awful consequences. We talk faith, there is a reason we don't understand, but the premature death of anyone affects us deeply.

The hazard of being on this lonely planet is, despite the fact we know we are going to die, none of us know (or want to know) the day.

Shrug. I suppose it was something like "Darn. What are the odds?" or, more to the point, "Hey, fellow writers, here's another news story that, tragic as it is, might make for a great plot bunny!"

It is why I post half the things I post. No need to thank me. I love inspiring writers to write.
