Google Earth

It's particularly cool if you go to street level (only the grey shaded parts) and start rotating the globe. Et voila. Flying.

You can input postcodes or addresses and if it has them it will find them.

One excellent add on feature, free wifi hotspots.

Yes, but it takes a formidable PC to run it. It sucked on my 1 gig hertz PC, but I've seen it run on a 3 gig hertz PC and it is awesome.

And free.

I can't wait for real time satellite imagery to be integrated, so I can zoom in on you & Vella as you sunbathe out back.

Tis, isn't it. A friend sent it to me a few months ago, but I couldn't view it too well at home until I got onto broadboad and highspeed connection. I haven't played with it for ages, since coming here, I may have to give it another go.

Thanks for reminding me.

Well, I just checked our addy and the cross-hatch went right to my backyard, so ... happy viewing!
:D

I haven't played with all the features yet, but that street level feature sounds great!
Thanks for the mention.

Since real time satellite imagery may be a few years out, maybe I need to buy one of these

Hell yes it is. Can you find your house?

The pics over where I live is a year old, and my newly built home is a rubble heap.

Just zooming around at random is educational. Apparently there is a Cleveland in Texas.

No, just a really bad earthquake today in Ohio.

Even cooler! I just plugged my GPS unit in and zoomed right in on my location.

I'm waving but you can't see me. :D

Yep. Found our house. I'm not sure how old the photo is, though. I wish it had a little better resolution because things get too fuzzy when I zoom in, but it's still cool to see the aerial view of all around.
:)

Lucky, thanks so much! I found my home and sent the link to a friend; told him the building with the red car parked in front was mine.

Next I flew over Venice!

Perdita :)

Sweet!

I saw that they had some neat destinations on the left and can't wait to check them all out.

I miss Venice. :( (Especially want to revisit St. Mark's and burn up 10 more rolls of film.)

One of the neatest things I found was the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor. You can see it quite clearly sitting underwater.

Moored just next to the Arizona is the USS Missouri. The Missouri is retired now, and on permanent display in Pearl Harbor. The Missouri is the ship on which the Japanese signed the surrender documents.

In putting the Missouri next to the Arizona, the Navy has put the symbolic beginning and end of WW2 side by side. The war for us started with the sinking of the Arizona, and ended with the signing of the papers on the Missouri.

Sounds neat, Wildcard.
What search criteria did you put in?
I tried USS Arizona and it took me to Kansas or some such.
Also went to Peark Harbor, HI and found a bunch of Navy ships, but wasn't able to locate the clear visual you spoke of.

Pics are about a year old over here. I can see the kids trampoline in the back garden. The washing was out.
Gawd! Abs ass is big. :D

I've had Google earth for a while, it's great when homesickness strikes. I can just fly over the ocean and home :)

And it kicks ass when for days when I feel like the world is being mean to me. I can flip it upside down and spin it backwards, just cuz I bloody want to.

Beginning of February 2004 for my local's pics :)

the snow was off the ground, BUT the big trailer from the people refinishing the basement was there

Based upon what vehicles were in the draveway/front of the house it was either a weekend OR Feb 16th

I must say, I can't see my home that clearly, my whole town is kind of one big blur. Then again, I live in a tiny town in Germany, so it's not really a surprise.
