Exactly. Poor Bert is obviously in a distressed mental and emotional state. He's all over the place mentally trying to grasp at whatever straws he thinks will make him feel better, silence those inner demons. Randomly insulting and berating whoever he can in an effort to improve his apparent deflated ego and sense of worth. But we all know, just like he does, that methodology only deals with the superficial symptoms of his problems. It will not help Bert in the long run. It's just a poorly functioning bandaid he uses to distract himself from his misery.
