good stories that were never quite completed...

I have been on lit for some years now, and over and over, i see stories that really piqued my interest, but were never completed.
There is nothing more frustrating then to see a story I like left incomplete at a pivotal moment!

Prime examples (imho):
Clarissa and the Doctor

Song of Summer Winds

It's late, and I'm tired.
I hope against hope that by posting mention of these incomplete (grrr!) stories, the authors may get it in their heads to get back to work, and deliver some sort of conclusion to us humble readers.
Please, post mention of other stories that you would like to see completed.

hmmm...so maybe i may have carelessly posted this thread in the wrong forum
hopefully, nobody will mind too much?

I don't think it is necessarily the wrong forum.
Check the dates on the stories, and the authour pages. If they are still active, PM them.
I know how easy it is to get distracted from the sequel. I have a pile of sequel ideas unwritten. Encouragement helps prioritize them.

I have actually spoken with both of these authors.
I dont know what is stopping them from continuing their stories!
Self doubt? maybe they dont think others like their stories? not sure, myself.

i hoped, in a way, that this thread would help authors such as those get over any feelings of inadequacy.

Lack of time or a loss of interest in the story are probably the main reasons they were not finished....

A good reason not to post a story unless it is finsihed... It's not nice to leave readers hanging....

but thry might be like me and write the first one as a free standing tale, and only at the end realize that these characters can continue...

I myself am trying to push through a series called Caribbean Cruise... I've sort of lost interest there for a while, but a few different people's encouragements have helped me start again and continue on from where I had left things hanging.

For me, in a large part, its about keeping interested in continuing the story, or lack thereof... I have never really ever felt a sense of inadequacy when it has come to the stories I've posted here on Lit, but I'm sure that many have.

Probably from now on I might just type up all the chapters of a progressive story, or a few at least to keep the readers satisfied, and post them all in a few big chunks, just to keep people happy for a while... but the readers have got to realise, also, that writers have other things to do out there as well! :p :D

My longest work-in-progress was probably The Ravishing of Constance. I'd written the first chapter at least nine years ago, always meaning to go back and finish it, never getting around to it.

Then I discovered Lit, and dusted it off. Thought it'd go maybe 8-10 chapters total ... but I got to having so much fun with it -- mmm, piratey goodness! -- that it went 20 chapters and people still ask for a sequel! ;)

After one time of writing and posting each chapter of a story, I changed to doing the whole story, then posting chapters in a timely fashion worked better for me. That way, if I am hot on a story, I can get it all done, then later, post it one chapter at a time and not worry about losing interest in finishing it.

Of course...I have some stories on my hard drive that are just sitting there yet...heh heh.

I came across a story with about 2 chapters written probably 2001/2, but it was never finished. Someone must have really wanted to see what happened, so that wrote the following chapter themselves! :D They kept the same title and I think wrote something like "inspired by...[insert original author]". Can't remember what it was called. But it wasn't a bad idea.

Actually, that is a really bad idea ... fanfiction is one thing, but continuing someone else's story on here or using their characters without their permission? Bad, bad idea.

hmmm...not too sure about that one
i think any story is the intellectual property of the person who originally thought of it. taking up where they left off without their permission is wrong
however...i dont see any reason why people shouldnt be able to continue where somebody stopped, if they have the original author's blessings.

SAx5 - i never figured that my stories were any good...at least after rereading the first chapter just now
If you have an interest in seeing more, i dont really know what to say. I no longer have the time really to write :(
If you like, you or anyone that wants may continue where i stopped. just pm me

The worst stories, are the ones where authors only post a snipet on here, expecting you to buy their book to see what happens next.

Ugh... they always get me sucked in, but I never buy the book... there are too many other good stories on here to bother chasing maybe one.

I think "Lynne" was a excellent story written by 'The Englishman' a long time ago. But it was stopped half way since people selling his story.

Would love to see it complete.
