This is an old video but when I saw it it gave me an idea for a thread here on the politics board.

I invite all of you to post a link of a politician either on the right or the left going on an interview on TV and handling it very well. One that recognizes all the traps, attempts to frame the issue in one way, or to pigeon hole that politician as one caricature. Breakdown as the host of the Majority Report did to all the questions tactically, rhetorically, and politically. Or conversely post a link of a politician on the right or the left that fails to do any of that.

Handling oneself and communicating ones ideas to the press is definitely a skill politicians are more or less skilled in, but its a vital skill for any politician to exercise.

Also I realize Occasio-Cortez is a lightning rod for some, but I don't want critiquing her to lead this thread off topic. If you disagree with AOC that's fine. There's other places here to voice that. The video is just to give an example of the premise for my thread idea here. So I beg you all focus on the premise of the thread rather than her please.

Finally to all our conservative politics board members...here's your chance to give examples and details of just how the 'Fake News Media' work.

This is what I think of Occasio-Cortez.

I also think she's the flavor of the moment: young, pretty, minority, elected. If she's around for a second term, I'll have a better opinion of her.

It's a good interview on her part. She answers yes to the questions that people expect a yes from, but after that, without going into complete ideas that could get her into trouble, she answers with ideas of what should be, but not with the how to make it as it should be.

Politician answers. (Something that Trump hasn't learned to give.)

As I said I don't want to focus on AOC too much as I fear it can drag this thread off topic, but you managed to save it with a valid analysis of the interview.

I agree with you on Trump. If the interview isn't a softball game with the cheerleaders at Fox news he's horrendous at this aspect of being a politician. His only tactic is to get confrontational with reporters allowing them to paint him as the lunatic (the very unstable 'genius') in the oval office attacking the honored American tradition of the independent press holding the government accountable. I didn't think there were any politicians worse than Sarah Palin at this dance until he ran for office in 2016.
