Some of you may know that one of the many hats I wear is that of professional musician. Along those lines, I am pleased to announce the release of my third CD of piano solos "Show Some Emotion". I got the title as a result of the many emotions I've expressed on this forum over the last couple of months. At the same time, a positive review of my first two CDs has appeared on the internet...go to musicweb-international.com/classrev/2005/Jan05/deLucia.htm
for details. I've been so busy getting the new CD together I haven't had too much time for poetry....will try to submit a new one tonight.
My question for the forum is ....Do you play a musical instrument, and if yes, to what level? Have you ever been a member of a chorus. band, or orchestra? It seems like a lot of poets are also interested in music, and I don't remember this topic being discussed recently. It will be interesting to see what budding talent there is among us...I expect quite a bit!

Congrats......

way to go man. I don't play anything, but I do know the words to most Carolina
beach songs and all of Delbert's stuff. Now if I could carry a tune. Good JOB dude. :)

Thats terriffic news, Sack! Congrats!

I don't play... well, a minimum amount of sax and clarinet taught to me by my Dad who used to play in a jazz band, but not enough to play for anyone but my youngest grandkids! LOL

A couple of my poems, however, were written with a mandolin and Alison Krause or Emmy Lou Harris in mind. Learning to play the mandolin is on my "Things to do before I die" list.

I used to sing in a gospel choir in college. Over the last several years, I wrote some gospel music. I've just not had the opportunity to have my dreams on that level fulfilled--to hear someone sing them. I don't sing as much as I used to... heck, the shower cringes sometimes.

Pretty scary to hear, huh... (not my voice... the fact that I used to sing and write gospel in another life, silly!)

Congrats Sack! That is terrific news. I am a major music fan--and I wish I had learned to play when I was a kid cause I hear music in my head all the time--even dream it. I am very lucky though in that my sweety is a fantastic musician, plays everything from rock to classical to jazz and he plays for me often. Just guitar, but he can play pretty much everything. :)

One of my fantasies has always been to play Beethoven's Emporer Concerto flawlessly. (I have high standards for my fantasies, lol.)

Again, great news. Good on you.

Gina I adore Gospel--ever see a documentary called Say Amen, Somebody? If you can find it, you'd love it. :)

Congratulations, sack. I ordered both CDs.

Not a musician myself -- except perhaps vocally, although I never developed it (much to the chagrin of those closest to me).

I don't really play any longer, and my level would be pretty circumspect these days anyways, but I played viola for several years while in school, and the recorder on the side just for fun. <g>

Congrats, sacky!
Imp, where did you order them?

If you follow the review link that sack posted, at the bottom there's a link to an indie CD store. They were $11.99 each

Thanks everyone!

And it's great to see that there are many others, including someone special in their lives that are into music. Impressive, that's really sweet of you to order both CDs....I have written some of my best poetry while listening to Music For Quiet Listening, the dreamy one. More Music For Quiet Listening has some works I wrote myself, such as Jubilant Jane and Her Adventures. And, in a month or so, "Show Some Emotion" will be available. In many ways, that one will be the best of all. If anyone that orders the CDs wants to write a mini-review for this forum, that would be cool. So far, I've had the best sales from parents that are looking for something for their children to fall asleep to....works every time!

Sack

To Angeline...

I don't think I've heard ANYONE play the Beethoven Emperor Concerto flawlessly, why don't you be the first? So far have not recorded Beethoven for any of my CDs yet. Liszt, Debussy, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, and many others....

Might do it for the "Reviews & Essays" category, eh?

Well done Mr Sack serrah.....

I myself play no instrument.... But I used to be a beat poet in high-school/university, and have been in a few school choirs.... Also, I've tried my hand at singing with a few bands in my short time (I still plan to retire at age 45-50 to take up a contract slot in Vegas being a lounge singer).

Apart from that I AM a HUGE fan of music.... I pretty much listen to music most of my waking hours when in my house (I have a redundant TV which should really be sold to make more beer money and more CD/Book storage space, but I'm pretty addicted to Desperate Housewives and BBC teletext News coverage is some of the best I have come across)..... I notice you're doing piano solos... and do some classical stuff... Anything from Chopins Nocturnes??? If so, Any UK/Europe suppliers for your record? Is it available for general purchase?? I still get slightly aroused by the nocturnes... something about them just spits 'silent movie' to me....

Once again, well done, and thank you for your comments on my last submission (sorrow 11,11,12,12)... they where much apreciated (I tried to message you about them, but you never responded...)

Had to share the order confirmation e-mail from the indie e-store where I ordered sack's CDs. I got a chuckle out of it:

Poet Musicians or Musician Poets

I played, but not recently, and took lessons in:

clarinet, piano, french horn and guitar

I also sang in the chorus in school and did some performing in musicals.

to Trent....

Actually, I did write back, message probably got lost in cyberspace! No Chopin Nocturnes on either CD, although most other pieces are in that style (gentle classical). You might want to try Cdbaby.com they may ship to Europe, or perhaps Amazon.com? The US website also sells both CDs....search classical music for Music For Quiet Listening.

Thanks, Sack :)

Congrats Sack.... wowow had no idea you were so talented!!!!

For me, I've played keyboard for almost 30 years (I'm 25, really ;) lol)

Studied it when I was young... still grateful to my parents for pushing me to learn. Now, I run four karaoke rooms on paltalk when I get the chance to go there lol.

Would love to hear you play if you ever get there sack.

Oh, and I can't sing to save myself. I'm the comedy relief lol

Wow, sack!

I'm in no way an expert, but I'm really enjoying your CDs. Thanks for sharing. :rose:

Congrats Sack!

I can play the flute, piccalo and keyboard. Know a few chords on the guitar. Can play only twinkle twinkle little star on the fiddle, lol.

I haven't played the flute or piccalo seriously in numerous years.

Was part of a novice band last year. Broke up when one of the couples divorced. We were all learning together. My husband has stuck with playing the guitar, thank god, and we have written several songs together. We don't have lyrics for those pieces yet.

I have written several songs on my own, one of which is posted here on Lit. "He Gives Me Butterflies". Unfortunately, I can't sing very well. It does not have the music written for it just yet, I can't seem to make it come together.

Music for a poet?

Congratulations, Sack.

I play piano but not all that well. I noticed that Angeline fantasises about the Emperor but I think that for her Beethoven's Patetique would be perfect . Cool simple and just right at every point , fairly easy to play and listen to, but very difficult to play really well.

Come to think of it that's not a bad parallel to her poetry.

Do you ever think of particular pieces of music as appropriate to, or "fitting" people you know?

Thanks, Imp!

I'm glad you're enjoying the two CDs. Let me know if you write a great poem while listening to them! Ish wanted to know if certain pieces remind me of particular people. Hmmmm......

Ish: Rachmaninoff: Prelude, Opus 32, #5
Angeline: Liszt/Schumann Widmung
Wicked Eve: Liszt: Benediction
Charley: Kellogg: Dance
Awful Arthur: DeLucia: Rapture
Doormouse: Ravel: Pavane
Lauren Hynde: Casadesus: Prelude, Opus 5. #24

All of these pieces, by the way, are on my three CDs. A new one should be available in 2 weeks!
