Good Lit writers who aren't on forums

I see those strangers' names on toplists and contest winner lists and it makes me sad not to know them. We're all writerly sorts here, in a rather odd genre outside the mainstream that's often looked down on. As such, we form kind of a band of brothers and sisters.

Question: Might many of those non-participants just not know know about the forums? I didn't at first, and was very scared to weigh in when I noticed them. I am not so arrogant as to think everyone would want to post here, but possibly many would. Should we perhaps send notes to unfamiliar top-listers and category winners telling them about AH and other forums, and inviting them to drop by?

(Given the addictive time-suck that this activity can become, am I evil to want to entice innocents to waste their time here? Am I the  ?)

Begone, Satan!

Thinkin' about it.

My problem is that I have a dirty little secret - I've written and posted way more words of smut here that I've ever read.

Tell ya' what: If anyone else sees a writer they think would be a good "catch" for our community, let me know and I would be happy to send a note.

I think most writers probably know about the boards, but a lot of people don't really care to write to boards. I know I've had bad experiences on other boards where they are mostly populated with morons. Or at least those are the ones who post the most.

Also, I didn't post to the Author's Hangout for a long time, even though I posted to a couple of the other boards. I think the description under the board's name might make the AH sound more like a working board than a hanging out sort of board (one reason I didn't visit much sooner).

I had stories up a long time before I began posting here.

Nerves, I suppose.

But I love the people here. I have received good advice, decent information, support for new ideas, creative suggestions, editing help and a solid sense of friendship that I don't believe I've seen in too many other places.

Of course, it is easy to not write and waste time on the forums, too. Ahem.

But it is very worthwhile.

I love the idea, Roxy- invite 'em all.

On the first, I'm sure you are correct about many, but certainly not all, and maybe not even "most." It might be a mistake to assume that because a person likes to write erotica they also know about discussion boards. I did't know about them (first hand, that is), and was intimidated to post at first (and I am hardly a shrinking violet, as those in the political threads will affirm. :D )

On the second, I think that is exactly correct. Lit's proprietors don't seem to be real big on the "continuous improvement" concept. Which may just mean that they have their hands full keeping the (already excellent) product up and running. But it doesn't appear that any site labels have evolved with the changing ways the site is used.

I thought the AH was more of a working board than a hangin out board also, and then even more pleased when I found out it was both. I still like when the Newbie Thread pops up and help someone with a story idea or something, then go on to the next thread and discuss something having nothing to do with stories.

I would say if you think someone doesn't know, send em an invite.

I wrote for over a year before I ever came here...like now, I just didn't have anything to say...

What the lady said.

Invite em' all, Roxy.

A good multitasker can post and write at the same time, anyway.

Hmmm, that would explain my output as of late.

Anyhoo, th' more the merrier.

Especially on the political threads(lol).

Peace.

Hell yes, Roxanne. If the AH will take me, it will take anyone :D
Where was I when the AH 'took' you? I miss all the fun in this place...

I have been a forumer for five years. I have also been reading Lit for around five years. I submitted a story on Lit three years ago. I only started posting in the forums here regularly a few months ago though. I just didn't feel the need to converse with everyone here right away.

And some people just don't like forums at all.

Well... my first story was posted on Lit in 2001, as I remember (under a different name). Over the past six years I've fallen on and off the boards several times. It just depends on what's happening in LIFE.

I know of one toplist author who just doesn't "get" the forums... there are those who just don't and may never. I tried the GB before coming here... it was great to find this place. I, too, thought it was more of a "working" board than a hanging out one... I think that's a common misconception with the AH...

I think/hope our reviews have sort of helped introduced new authors to the AH as well... it was one of the reasons I started the idea...

Just look at the headline for the AH - "Do you have a question about writing or for the authors". It sort of sounds like we are sitting around her doing nothing but waiting for some boob to wander in and ask us a question.

No. We're waiting for some boob to ask THE Question.

And then we can give stupid answers.
