I haven't done any requested feedbacking for some time now on the Story Feedback board (must catch up with that) and Chicklets thread about "What keeps you reading?" prompted me to pose the question:

How many times have you begun to read a story in the Feedback forum and decided for whatever reason you just couldn't be arsed?

Loads, but not cause it's dross, mostly cause I don't have the time. Partly because they don't want my brand of feedback.

I did it twice and spent a good hour and a half on each one and still didn't give all the (yes, constructive) suggestions I might have. I suppose I could not be so thorough but I don't want to be cavalier about it. So basically, it does take time if one wants to be thoughtful.

p.s. I'm presuming this is forum feecback (vs. personal after reading a posted story).

Basically I try to give feedback whether requested or not, but sometimes I just don't feel like it. It's the mood, really...if I don't feel like sitting down and writing a decent e-mail, then why should I? The author wants feedback, sure, asks for it, sure, but do they really just want an email that says "good story"? I sure don't.

Yeah, I'm guilty of that. But like KM it's not usually because of the dross factor. A lot of the stories when I get there and see the categories don't appeal to me. Either that or they're about things I have no expertise in so I don't feel qualified to give criticism.

I could I suppose just give comment on grammer and spelling but that's not exactly my forte either, so basically unless it's a theme that I'm familiar with or I really like the story and go into fan mode, I'll just pass.

It's been a good long while for me as well. As the kids moved into the end of the school year there were tons of things going on and now with school out and them home I have to mind my P's and Q's with my surfing. Also when I have looked in I haven't found anything to pull me in. Perhaps my mood or my own creative block have a lot to do with it. So, yep I'm guilty of slacking in the feedback department.

Feedback Forum?

I don't visit the Feedback Forum very often.

I give feedback on stories I read IF I have enjoyed at least part of the story and I think the author might appreciate what I want to say.

I don't give feedback on dire stories or stories where the author would not understand my comments.

Reading is easy. Giving feedback is a considerable effort. I could read ten stories in the time it takes me to write one piece of feedback or five stories in the time it took me to write this post.
