Not much of a thread as threads go, but I thought I just had to share this book I am reading; "The Great Disruption - human nature and the reconstitution of social order" by Francis Fukuyama.

Without going into detail my feedback is that this book has helped me understand social order and why people think the way the do with regards to politics, each other, and society. It makes sense to me.

To me it is not as dry reading as it sounds - the author has a decent informal style while still being authoritative and giving references to back him up.

Have you read much of Fukuyama's work before?
No - but I am aware of it. I read the reviews of his books before I bought this one.

Have you read them?

What did you think?

He's also done quite a bit of writing for Foreign Affairs. I typically enjoy all of his work in journals.
Now I remember where I saw him; on PBS in an interview.

I haven't read The Great Disruption but I'm sure that I will be assigned chapters from that shortly. It came out within the last year, right?
Copyright is 1999 - I've had the book for over a year and have been reading it off and on. It seems to get better as it progresses.

STG, thank you for the recommendation. :)
Anytime.

One thing I always remember him for what he considers the essential paradox of human life:

"The end of history would mean the end of wars and bloody revolutions......."
For someone who seems to understand human nature as well as he does - that seems higly Utopian, but then I guess I would have to read the book to get the context.
