Ahh that is actually a reproduction of a famous plate that is currently exhibited in the British Museum...
It depicts the final moments of the Admunsun Expedition of 1883, which took a fearless crew of international explorers deep into the Arctic Circle in search of the fabled "Place from whence all fruitcakes come."
It is believed that Tolkien himself 'borrowed' from this mythology when he detailed that his titular ring could only be destroyed when cast into the fires of Mount Doom... An obvious and thin allegory for the "Place from whence all fruitcakes come."
Sadly only one member of the expedition (a Dutch hermaphrodite called Halka) returned to tell the tale. But, he was able to bring back a single wooden plate etched by one of the indigenous guides showing the final scenes of the expedition.
While the Admunsun Expedition captured the hearts and minds of all the British Empire, (who desperately were looking for a solution to the fruitcake issue), Halka was deemed thoroughly insane, and the hole was never found again.
