Anyone seen it? Is it worth four hours of my time? Should I skip it and wait for the DVD?

Wait for the DVD.

Gods & Generals in a nutshell.

SPOILER WARNING!

"Look! Another long, dramatic monologue, showing all these wonderful people prayed every day and thought that god was on their side. Now, since it's a war movie, lets show an hour of war.

Okay, we're done with the war. Let's Show Stonewall Jackson playing with a girl we all know is doomed to die by the end of the movie. Oh, look, now their both dead."

My son saw it last night and he said it was "awesome". It must have been pretty good for him to have sat there for four hours.

Now, whether you want to take the advice of a 13 year old, is entirely up to you. :)

yep. that's a good discription but I loved it anyway. Course I'v red a lot of books about stone wall jackson and it seemed to stick to the facts about him.

If you're not interested in the topic, you aren't going to be interested in a movie based on said topic.

I can't wait to see it.

Oh I'm interested in the topic...see my nick.....but I've heard good and bad about the movie and four hours is a long time, so I am seeking opinions. I loved the book and the movie Gettysburg but still up in the air about whether to see this one in the theater.

I didn't see Gettysburg in the theatre ... and I've kicked myself ever since. I'm not going to take the chance and miss this, too.

My sources say it's pretty good.

Completely off topic, kinda.....just a helpful book here.....Stonewall: A Biography of General Thomas J. Jackson
by Byron Farwell. This is the best book on Stonewall Jackson I have ever read.

Like I said it's pretty good and worth the time spent. It's not as gory as Saving Private Ryan and the battles are not as long as Gettysburg. But they did cover three battles. They left things out rather than added seens I had not heard of. It had a lot of Gone with the Wind effect as well.

Another good book; "The Stonewall Brigade". mainly about a Dr. that was in the Brigade.

Didn't say I didn't enjoy it. Actually loved it. It was well shot, well acted, and well done. I was just warning him that it didn't seem like a Gettysburg fight scene to me....if that's what he was going for.
