GODDAMN CELL PHONES !!!! How rude can people be?

In Canada the government is looking at licensing cell ohone jammers for certain areas, (movie theaters, theaters ect.)

Good vent. I couldn't agree more.

I have a cell phone myself - I keep it on vibrate so that people don't have to hear it ring (and it feels SO good!) - and if I'm in a public place I step out to talk...

It took a long time for people to learn pager etiquette (and not everyone did) - now it seems that all went out the window with cell phones.

I LOVE listening to half of a conversation, so compelling.

Actual conversation I heard in a restaurant:

"Yap, I'm here now, no I wasn't here before, but I am now."

(silence)

"No, I'm here, really, are you coming?"

(silence)

"No, I was there already, but I'm here now"

(silence)

"Yap, I'm here, I was there about ten o'clock, but now I'm here."

(silence)

"I'll be here."

Important stuff.

Siren, you may as well get used to the fact that common courtesy is dead.

Cell phones are just the latest example of the lack of manners. It started out as a status symbol. Now that everyone has one, it has lost its panache. So these people need to establish some sort of persona that they are still more important than everyone else.

For the majority of cell phone owners, there is NOTHING so important that it can't wait till they get home (or to the office) So, unless they are physicians, emergency services personnel or having an emergency of their own, there is no excuse for using their phones in the presence of others.

It is rude.

PS It could have been worse. she could have been on the phone with the Health Department telling them she saw roaches in that Chinese Restaurant!

Just a word of warning... don't meditate while you're driving.

I couldn't agree more Siren...oh, hold on, I've got a call coming in...I'm so important, I have to have my cell on all the time too, just in case somebody has to call me, so this must be extremely urgent and more important than continuing my conversation with you, so please excuse me just a moment....

"Hello..........uh-huh, sure, I can stop by the store.........ok, a gallon of milk..........see you soon.........love you too............bye"

OK, where was I again?

Cell Phone etiquette Dilly??? Hahaha

:p

I absolutely hate cell phones. It never fails. Almost every day, in at least one of my classes someone's cell phone goes off. Then the professor has to stop his lecture, makes a rude/funny comment and everyone in the class laughs at this person. I mean are you THAT fucking popular that you have to have your phone on in class.

I have a cell phone, but I use it in my car, or at home for the long distance deal and to talk to people while I'm online tying up my regular phone line with my computer. Family and friends know to call the cell number if my regular line is busy.

I try not to use it at all in restaurants, etc. Away from home, I use it mostly as a way to check in to voice mail at work. But I have been known to use it in stores. Usually when I'm standing in front of a display of something I want to buy and need to call to find out what sizes my nieces wear (I never remember and they grow too fast!). My sister-in-law is used to getting such calls from me from all over the country. :)

Your Professor is a wuss

Ah, I am always riled up for you Dilly wood

The problem with that is if you have a emergency your screwed.....

I can understand Siren's situation though, thats just sick to tlak about at a restuarant. Though I might have said something to the waitress instead of going straight to the woman, even if she was right behind me. I just would have said it a bit loud where I was sure the woman could hear me as well.

"Excuse me, could you please ask the woman behind me to stop speaking about roaches while the rest of us are trying to eat? Thank you"

Now that is a call I would have appreciated.

:p

He should take the offending phone and not return it til after class. People can turn their cell phones off during lecture, if they dont, they lose the phone til after class....they do it again, they lose a grade....

I bet the phones would be turned off immediately.

Oh man I would definitely sign up for that course.

Good, I am teaching it...it is called...
