On the way to class today, I passed by a large Methodist church. Out front were a dozen protesters, holding up signs that said, "God Hates Fags" and "AIDS is God's Cure" and "Bush is Pro-Fag." One of the protesters was an elementary-aged girl, proudly standing by her mother. The sign was bigger than her; she couldn't have been more than 8. Wonderful how parents indoctrinate their children with hatred from such an early age. I was literally shaking as I passed them - with anger, shame, and a million unspoken - and useless - thoughts running through my mind. I still feel ill.

Thats organised religeon for ya....they say they preach love but spend most of their time justifying hate.

It's worldwide.....

Northern Ireland....they are throwing handgrenades, rocks and whatever else they can at 5 and 6 year old little girls...why? Because they are Catholic....Fucking pussies!

In USA Today there is a picture of a Palestinian woman standin in the street, there is a a Jewish boy, around 10 or 11 it looks, kicking her and an older Jewish girl trying to pull off her headress.
And they call the Palestinians filth....

The Holacaust was terrible but does it entitle the Israeli's to engage in this bullying?

Just a question.

Humanity would be great...if it weren't for the humans.

It would be fun to go protest them right back. Have a big BBQ with music and all the guys could dress up like queens and the gals could dress up like diesel dykes... damn i wish I lived there so i could throw it together..

Our signs could read:

"Jesus was a tranny"
"God Bless Church Porn"
"the Pew is not for You"

We could have a band set up called the Pole Smokin' Popes with yours truly on guitar and vocals.....with my fishnets on and my Marilyn wig.....

"God Bless Church Porn." I love it. And yet another occasion where I could wear that latex nun outift.

And to update: I just found out that the hatemongers drove all the way from Topeka, Kansas to spread their message. I wonder if that means they gave up on Kansans, or do they believe Bush will pay attention to them if they're in his home state?

Those knuckleheads take their delightful religious message everywhere, kind of "have hate, will travel." They made the mistake of showing up on North Broadway in Chicago to harass the minister who performed a same-sex "wedding." Apparently nobody told them that even the mayor and cops like gay people here. They didn't get the warmest welcome...

Oh are they still there? I'm feeling rather physically proactive. I'll just go grab Never and her newly bought tools and we'll go wreak havoc on that little sickly demonstration.

Yeah, violence is a much better answer towards ignorance.

Lavy was being tongue-in-cheek, Gilly. She's not a big fan of guns. Think snowballs in hell before Lavy wraps her hands around an automatic.

It probably WAS the Phelps crew. They've been just about everywhere since their two websites made national Television, and since they picketed the Matthew Shepard FUNERAL.

Those are some sick fucks.

Whew!

Do you like the nutritious side, or the frosting?

Start off with the nutritious....inevitably leads to the frosting;)

I can have my cake and eat it too!

DA...The church may be progressive....but the minds of some in it aren't I suppose.

FYI to all those who carry "God Hates_______" signs; Nowhere in the Bible does it say God hates anything. He/She is described as pure good and pure love. Untouched by sin. They should read the book if they wanna be one.

Re: Re: Sticking to the cereal theme....

I've been lurking off and on for the last week or so because I have some personal problems that make it hard to deal with them and this BB at the same time. But I have come to grips with those problems a little, and I feel I have to say something about this thread:

Sometimes progress goes against the basic tenets of an organization. When "progress" causes that organization to morph into something that is self contradictory, then it can fall apart, self destruct or change into something that is the opposite of what it started out as.

I have no real problems with same sex marriages from a legal point of view; I believe it is not the government's business to define what marriage is outside of some kind of legal relationship/partnership with regards to protecting the rights of those involved. This includes polygamy.

However, a religious institution is different; by definition it has strongly held beliefs, and its members may rightfully resist changes away from those core beliefs. That said, Christianity is about love - certainly not hate, and those "Christians" that profess hate against others in God's name are violating a much more basic tenet of Christianity than what they are protesting against.

Actually, there are a number of scriptures that describe God as hating a number of things (primarily evil), but the most appropriate scriptures for this thread would be Proverbs 6:16-19:

There are six things which the Lord hates,
Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
And hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that run rapidly to evil,
A false witness who utters lies,
And one who spreads strife among brothers.

Sometimes I am ashamed of those who claim to practice my religion; such as the time my parent's church refused to minister to those who had HIV/AIDs on the basis that they deserved what they got. Other times are when I see or hear of "Christians" professing a message of hate. I want to say to them; go home and read your Bible - pray that God will remove this hate from your heart.
