On the Night Train,

After a day spent on the lifts and slopes

The powder fresh, perfect, and clean,

Downhill, the frozen wind taking our breath away

To town, and shopping throughout the day

With more than a few breaks for cocoa, whiskey, or wine

The infectious cheefulness blessing us with smiles

After dinner, songs and whiskey by the fire

We take the last Night Train and return by moonlight

To the lodge and our room lit with the fireplace

And a night full of love, desire, pleasure

To fill our hearts and minds to the end of time

the expanse of grey water and grey sky filling the large window.
The rumbling of the heavy diesel engines soothing me
as the ferry lumbers across the Sound

on a road trip into the desert
following every winding road
dusty signs to mini museums
and postage-stamp sized municipal parks

pull off on the side of the road
to read the historical marker
placed by some earnest group
40 or 80 some years ago

breath the air and turn around in wonder.

pulling a picnic out of the trunk
and, seeing the light is just right,
mixing paints to create
a miniature painting...

a keepsake of this moment.

you kiss me...

I smile...

and we head down the road again,
tucking myself under your arm.
