I posted a story (erotic encounters) in April. Reception
was favorable and it is still sitting over 4.5 in votes.
I posted another story (BDSM) in October. Reception was
so-so, and I don't think it evere went over 4.5.
The October story, has however (slightly) more downloads
than the April one, and 50% more votes.
Up one fifth as long, without the "hot" tag, it still has
overtaken the ohter story in readership

Maybe it's just me, but I am a much happier person since I stopped looking at votes, ratings, reads, etc.... I figure if it's really bad, I'll hear about it, and beyond that, I can just imagine that people like it.....

Ps. Someone else actually had to point out to me that my two stories that are posted ended up with H's.....*grin*

I'm with you there Whispers darling, (wish I was:D :rose: ) I haven't got a clue what the ratings or what have you are for my blurbs on here. I had a look about a month ago at one of them after a bit of feedback but the rest, bloody months ago.

The figures never make sense Uther mate.

However, I do keep track of the last time I received a good *leer* from Pops, and it had been a while....*sigh*....But, now I feel much better. *grin*

I'm with you Whisper, I'll take Pops' and leers anyday over votes. I haven't looked at mine since the H'ween contest and probably won't til the next one I enter.

Heh...when I used to keep close track of how my stories were doing I go an H on a chapter of one. For a long time afterwards I found myself ripping and tearing trying to discover why that particular chapter would get that rating and not the one before or after it. One day I realized that it just didn't matter. If I was happy with what I sent in to be posted, that was the only thing that mattered. Cleared my mind tremendously after that.:)

You got me thinking here...

So . . . just what is the speed of dark anyway?

And I think that I've figured it out. If light travels at around 186,000miles/second, then dark, which is anti-light, has to travel at the same rate speed ahead of, and behind it. Why? Because neither/both can/can't occupy the same space at the same time.

Heh heh heh are you sure about that? Maybe since the speed of light is 186,000 miles per second (+) then the speed of dark is 186,000 miles per second (-) Perhaps, since some believe in parallel worlds/universes, Dark and Light can co-exist at the same time.  :D

To clarify, I was only speaking of this demension, and this universe.

I think you'll find that there are similar disparities in readership numbers and vote percentages between any two categories. That's because each category has a different level of competition for readership and different voting trends init's readership.

An Erotic Couplings story has to stand out from a greater number of competitors than a BDSM story does, but BDSM fans tend to be more critical of the minor details of their favorite fetish.

I think there's a self-righteous anti-fetish element to the general trend of lower scores in some categories, like BDSM, Nonconsent, and Incest, where people down-vote stories simply because they're in those categories. (My one foray into the non-consent category generated a lot of hate mail from people who revealed they had never actually read the story by their inaccurate comments about why it was so horrible -- and in one case an outright admission from one critic that they hadn't read it but voted anyway.)

There are other factors, like the effects of title, blurb, and hook, that can generate similar disparities, but trying to understand the dynamics only generates ulcers and headaches. :p
