Well, I was wrong -- partly. For legal reasons, Google tells UK people they're getting a @googlemail.com address, but they actually give you a @gmail.com address AND a googlemail.com addy. So you can still give out myaddy@gmail.com and still receive all your mail. They're basically the same address.
