Global IT Outage

Still way better than the hoops I had to jump through to get rid computer viruses I caught clicking on sketchy porn sites back in the day.

The problem is that the software is the best on the market at its job. You'd have to get people to buy inferior products to solve the issue, which is also counterproductive.
When the 'best on the market' still causes major down time for your company, lesser options start to look much more attractive. Markets punished CRWD, down 10% Friday, likely because the markets believe crowdstrike will be punished by clients in the coming quarters. .

It doesn't cause downtime on a regular basis. It was a one off event.

They will be sued and will pay.

All due to the incompetence of Crowdstrike, an anti-virus software.

It’s not a political issue.
Crowdstrike issued a "mea culpa" explanation today. They have custom bug-checking software that inspects virus/intrusion detection modules in its signature "Falcon" security software....the bug-checking software for reasons unknown passed this update, while having previously caught other "null pointer" bugs. Of course they promised they've learned their lesson, fixed the bug in the bug-checking software and will be more conscientious going forward.

Crowdstrike said that the release with the flawed update was only publicly available for 90 minutes from midnight to 1:30 am EDT but the damage was immediate. In Europe, countries had already started their workday when the update automatically applied and basically crippled business in Europe for the entire day.

Many larger companies, and virtually ALL American hospitals and banks apply these security updates the moment they become available, which is why these two industries in America were crippled the most. Airlines applied these updates prior to 6 a.m. which caused havok in scheduling and flight management.

Delta airlines, for whatever reason, seemed to take the longest of any major company to recover from this bug, so naturally Congress has singled them out for "special treatment", they want the President of Delta to appear before the Senate and explain why "they" (the airline) screwed up so badly.

Cheap political theater uber alles.
