No, this isn't erotic fiction about strippers or superheroes. This is about the latest defense against automated plagiarism software.
Glaze and Nightshade are two digital utilities created by software developers at the University of Chicago. Glaze, the older of the two, adds barely visible artifacts to digital art (or digitized art) that blocks automated style mimicry. Nightshade goes a step further, adding "poison" to digital images that, when scraped for use by generative A.I., introduces disruptive data into the training pool. Simply put, it teaches generative A.I. programs the wrong stuff.
Currently, there is no all-in-one program that combines these two functions. The developers are working on one. For the time being, they do not recommend posting any artwork that is "Shaded but not Glazed" (their terminology) and to run artwork through Nightshade first, then Glaze. This is with the caveat that both programs combined may raise the level of visible artifacts.
