Elon Musk is not advocating "some temporary hardship." He is advocating the permanent defunding or end of government spending programs that benefit working class and middle class people. I have a better idea: let's raise the top tax rate to where it was when the national debt was under control.

If Trump has any mandate at all it is to immediately raise the living standards of working class and middle class Americans, and to keep them higher. They did not vote for Trump because they wanted the hardship billionaire Elon Musk so blithely advocates.

I too have witnessed the triumphant cry, "Look at what I saved!"

I also perused this thread and I get the feeling that there are a lot of inferred cries of "Look what I just won!"

It works the very same way each year when Congress's annual budget merely holds its increase in spending to an arbitrary limit base-lined on last years profligate spending and then brags about the pittance it didn't spend. But because our political system has become focused on SPYvSPY that we turn and brag about how thrifty our team is.

Across the whole city of New York, only 26% of people commute by car.

And yet, every day cars pour into Manhattan from outside the city, creating noise, pollution and danger for pedestrians. And the volume of cars slow traffic for delivery trucks, buses and rescue vehicles.

Congestion pricing is an intelligent way to encourage commuters from outside the city to use transit instead of causing problems for the residents of Manhattan.
