GIF Avatars

Hiyas. Not sure if there is already a thread for this....

How easy is it to make GIF AV's?? Either an 'already GIF'd' image or a personal one?
Is there a particular program needed? I'd love to be able to make up a personal GIF AV.

havnt found a cheap one that makes gifs, im using photoshop which cost a pretty penny

You can use most image manipulation software, If you have paintshop pro 7 or higher, it comes with animation shop which i've found VERY simple to use. I believe you must pay for both photoshop and paintshop pro. ( that said, it just so happens the internet is full of illegal copies to download for free aslong as your willing to search for the right keywords in google.com )

Huh? If you meant Animation Shop and not PhotoShop (2 different software makers, 1 is Jasc and other is Adobe), then actually I believe you can buy Animation Shop separately at Jasc's site. But Animation Shop is only good for making animated gifs and such.

Just about any half-way decent graphics editing program will allow you to save things as a gif file. Heck even Microsoft's Paint program which comes with Windows has the ability to save in the gif format. But if you want to do animated gif files, well that's a slightly different matter.
