"It is," he nodded. "But I like my work. Kate has already done good things, and I have stood beside her... It is good to help rather than hurt."

"As long as you find fulfillment." Rissa said as she stood there with her drink for a moment before she let out a long sigh. "Well, panther, I find myself needing a long and hot bath after today. It seems that someone wore me our while I was at the loch. You can either stay here, drink to your heart's content, or...you could join me."

Qira smiled lightly at her offer and rose from his seat, glad to follow her lead as it seemed was becoming the norm. "Lead on," he murmured, bringing his drink along as well.

Over the next few days, Rissa got to know Qira better. They shared a bed multiple times, enjoying one another in a way that she knew might end when they returned to Edinburgh. There was something about Qira that she couldn't quite place her finger on. He was willing to dive into hard work without hesitation. He was a quiet sort, not demanding anything from her. To Rissa, it was all a breath of fresh air.

"We have to return in two days." Rissa commented one evening after they had enjoyed a romp between her sheets, her fingers idly tracing along some of his muted tattoos. "I'm not sure that I really wish to. It's been nice here."

Qira had grown incredibly comfortable with Rissa, letting her see his natural gentle and laid-back personality. He didn't talk much without being prompted, but he listened well and remembered even tiny details. He was always willing to join Rissa in her work and outings and of course in bed, always aiming to enjoy and please her.

"It has," he murmured, an arm draped around her waist as he watched her study the ghosts of the long-covered tattoos. "It will be less often, but it does not have to end "

"All good things end, panther." Rissa said softly, her fingers combing over his velvet soft dark fur. "Including relationships. You'll be called to the queen's side and you'll forget all about me."

"Why do you think that?" Qira fixed her with a confused gaze. "I would not forget you just because I had work to do."

"Of course you will, panther. Men always do." Rissa said as matter of factly as she could, looking up at him as he pinned her with those amber eyes that were always so guarded. "I don't know a single man that has remembered me when they returned to real life. There's always an appointment to keep, a lover to see, another experience to move off to."

"This is real life. I will prove you wrong," Qira promised softly. "I like my time with you, whatever we are doing. I do not want to throw it away."

"You speak pretty words, Qira, but I promise you that things will change. They always do." Rissa said again, a bit more insistent this time as if she were speaking from experience. "It's not sad. It's simply what happens."

"We will see," he shrugged slightly, knowing she wouldn't believe him til she saw it herself. For the moment, he was content to enjoy his time lazing in bed after their romp.

"You're no different from any other man." Rissa said softly, speaking from a wealth of experience. "None stay for long after the novelty has worn off."

At that same moment, in a little cabin on the seashore, Kate rested under a pile of blankets. She was well and truly worn out, sore and content with the small vacation that Kell had taken her on. It would be ending much too soon, but she was happy with the time that they had away from the city.

"Kell, stop." Kate muttered, pushing his hands away as they smoothed up her naked hip. "You've had me in every way possible for the past week. Let me rest, you brute."

She turned her head on the pillow and gave him a small grin, kissing him with everything that she had to show him just how much it meant to her. "Go fish or something. Let me have some peace. Soon enough that Rissa woman will be bothering me enough for everyone."

"You were complaining all the way here that we never had time to really enjoy each other. I'm just making sure you'll be satisfied for a while," Kell grinned as their lips parted. He still had energy left despite constantly chasing around and making love. The first few days had been wild, no thought spared for sleep or food til they were truly sated, and then after that they'd taken time to really explore and try new things in between lazing around. Kell had proven to have amazing stamina, able to respond to Kate's wants and needs anytime

"You just want me naked all the time." Kate murmured as she felt him positioning until she was on her hands and knees and she didn't complain as she turned her head and captured his lips over her own shoulder. "Make it count, my love."

With ease and familiarity, Kell slowly sunk into her welcoming body, taking his time and drawing her up so her back pressed to his chest. Meeting her kiss with a grin, his hands kept firm hold of her hips and he rocked their bodies slowly in a smooth, easy rhythm. "I love you," he murmured, nipping gently at her neck.

"And I love you too." Kate said in a breathless tone, letting Kell take the lead as he always seemed to in their love making.

She adored him, perhaps more than anyone else in the world. The time away from court had solidified her love for him, making her see that he really did have her best interests at heart when it came to his love and protection. It was what she needed to be more confident in her skin.

By the time Kate lay panting and unable to move, it was pitch dark outside and only the hearth lit their little room. Kell sat at the bedside simply contemplating, comfortable in the moment.

"Would you promise me something?" Kate asked in a soft voice, exhausted and sprawled across the bed. "When I step down from the crown, we can live in a little cabin by the sea. Inverness will always be home, but this little house has been wonderful."

Kell had fished for them each morning, they had shared the duties of cooking meals, and it had been a lovely time just as the two of them. There wasn't a servant or family member waiting for them as there usually was.

"There are places like this in Inverness' holdings. We could have the best of both worlds. Close to home, but with a quiet little retreat," Kell offered, looking back at her and reaching out to take her hand.

"I'm sure it would cost a fortune." Kate said with a small smile as Kell took her hand and held it, making a promise to her that she could have the best of both worlds. "And terribly boring after the world that we've lived in for so long."

"Boring becomes a good thing when you're older. Boring means peaceful." Kell rose to stretch, pulling on a pair of trousers. "There's a full moon... I think I'll take your advice and do some fishing." Despite their constant lovemaking, he still didn't seem exhausted.

"Make me dinner." Kate said as she pulled the blankets up over her shoulders. "That would truly keep me happy."

"You're going to make me do all the work around here the whole week while you get to relax?" Kell looked back to her with a smirk. "When does my vacation start?"
