"I'm very aware. I'm the one who deals with the brunt of it. But she wouldn't be nearly as interesting without that stubborn spirit. It's what helps her keep the lord's if the realm from walking all over her."

"It will serve her well if she can learn when to use it to her advantage. She's young, however. She'll learn." Rissa said as they both watched Kate gallop off. "When shall I start?"

"Tomorrow, I think. I'll still need to introduce you to Qira, but he's confined to bed rest after our time in England. You'll probably get to know him in time, how well, I'm not sure. But he doesn't allow anyone near her that he hasn't personally cleared."

"So, my first duty will be to deal with an angry queen and an angrier guardian?" Rissa asked, quirking an eyebrow at Kell as he explained what she might be facing. "Sounds like an interesting first day. I will send for my things from my estate and tend to what needs to be done here."

"Qira is never angry. Just very quiet," Kell chuckled. "We have a strange outfit here, Lady Rissa. But there's a lot of trust between my wife, her guardian, and I that no one can interfere with. In time, I hope you'll find a happy medium with us, or even join in that circle. It remains to be seen, if Kate doesn't scare you off first."

"I will try my hardest to make myself scarce." Rissa said as she bowed her head towards her Lord Protector. "It will never be my intention to come between anyone or already formed relationships."

"I'll see you tomorrow, then, milady. We'll discuss further details as we go. But I think you'll do just fine here, even if it's a slow start." Kell escorted Rissa to the stables then, assuring her that if she needed help with getting settled at the castle, he'd be happy to help

Rissa nodded, bidding goodbye to the Lord Protector as her drake was brought out. He was a lovely fellow with black matte scales. He had been blinded in one eye during his younger days and he had a facial deformity to go along with it that required some additional attention, but she absolutely adored him. She had named him Artair and she rode him nearly everywhere.

"I hope that her majesty is ready for this. There are some out there who see me as a wayward woman living alone." Rissa said with a grin towards Kell. "I see it as a personal challenge."

"If it weren't for her sense of duty and noble blood, Kate would be in a very similar position to you," Kell assured her as she mounted her drake. "Enjoy the rest of your day. Your life is about to get much more... Interesting, shall we say." Kell sent her off and watched her go before turning to spy Kate riding in the distance. He considered joining her briefly, but instead leisurely strolled back inside to await her til she was finished.

Kate came back in about an hour later, exhausted from her ride, but feeling very content with herself. She knew that Kell would have something to say about everything, but she didn't really care. Having freedom was important to her and she was going to take every chance that she could.

When Kate arrived back in the mid-afternoon, things were running smoothly in Edinburgh Castle, no one hounding her for a decision or reply on this or that, Warwick going about his usual business on his own. For once, it felt like things were running without Kate having to oversee or micro-manage everything. And Kell was perched neatly in the windowsill of his tower study, writing this and that as if he were back in Inverness.

"I haven't seen this space since you claimed it for your own." Kate commented as she walked in the tower room that attached to their private quarters that Kell had claimed as an office. "Why do I have to use the offices downstairs? They're so much more boring."

Her office had a beautiful view of the gardens and the grounds beyond. She was simply arguing to be contrary about everything that day.

"If you want this one, I'll move," Kell offered calmly without looking up from his work, not entertaining her argument. He often just acted agreeable to annoy her or show her how ridiculous she was acting.

"No you won't." Kate said as she moved across the room and kissed Kell's cheek. "You just say you will to prove your point. I know how you work by now, love."

"I will. I'll start moving right now. Watch me." Kell rose after kissing her cheek in return and headed over to his bookshelf, beginning to stack books into his arms. "And you know nothing, darling," he gave her a smirk before heading toward the door. "Should I leave the desk, or do you want a different one?"

"Khelt Aleister, don't start this game with me." Kate growled, watching as he stood in the doorway so confident.

"It's not a game, love. If you want my office... How can I say no to such a simple request from the Queen of Scotland?" He set the books down on a side table. "Or are you telling me you're just acting fickle to prod at me, as per usual?" His calm golden gaze told her he knew all her games, and how to annoy her by turning them back on her.

"I would say you're perfectly welcome to do so, because you will regardless, and I'll play along like always." He smiled gently to her. "Now, you came up here looking for me. What do you need? I freed up the rest of the day for you, so there's no work to be had."

"Well, that's a surprise." Kate said as he told her that he had cleared up the rest of his day for her. "Even after I left you with the mysterious Rissa, you still want to spend the day with me?"

"I said I cleared the day for you. You seemed to be fairly content running around alone. I, meanwhile, have boring, secret Lord Protector things to do, like sit in this window and write and never tell you what it's about. but I could clear my schedule if you want." He smirked as he stepped forward to kiss her. "And I enjoyed my time with Rissa. She's a lovely woman, and she doesn't seem put off even after seeing how dysfunctional this place is. In fact, she'll be back tomorrow to start her own work."

Kate snagged Kell by the lapels of his shirt, pulling him in for another kiss when he tried to act as if he had other and better things to do. She grinned in that moment, still completely smitten with her husband in a way that only a new bride could be.

Kell's arms snaked around her waist, and then he scooped her up, her legs about his middle and his hands hooked beneath her thighs. "Hmm... What to do with all this free time, huh?"

"You mean all my free time. You just said that you had secret lord protector things to take care of." Kate murmured as he easily lifted her until she wrapped her legs around his middle. "What are you going to do with all of my free time?"

"I work better at night anyway. It can wait." Kell smiled up at her now. "It's all up to you, Your Majesty."
