Ghis (closed)

"What am I going to do with you, Brogan?" Julia asked softly as they relaxed in bed, her hand playing with his thick hair as he rested against her side.

"Keep right on doin' what ye've been doin' an' I think we'll be jus' fine," he murmured, pressing a gentle and adoring kiss to her neck before settling completely.

It was a few days later that a group of items for Kate's coronation arrived, including the jewels which she would wear on the day. Kate could handle any number of things, but for some reason, seeing the crown of Scotland made her melancholy. She sat in her room alone, Khan sleeping on the bed next to her as she simply stared at the crown made of sapphire and onyx. It was a lovely crown, but somehow she felt it was a lie to wear them.

The door opened after some time and Kell stepped in, a new bundle of writing supplies under his arm. "Afternoon, love," he murmured, leaning down to kiss her cheek. He stopped short seeing the look on her face. "... Something wrong, Kate?" He asked softly.

"It just feels wrong." Kate said as she looked up at her husband with a long sigh. "I mean, when the throne was still months away, everything seemed fine, but now that it's just a few weeks away, I'm not so sure that I'm the woman for this."

Kell laid his bundle aside and looked to the items Kate had received. With them had come things for Kell too, such as an eight-pointed star medal traditionally worn by Lord Protectors and regents in the past, a blue and white silk sash, and a fine officer's saber and belt and epaulets that would mark Kell as commander of the high throne's military forces. Kell gingerly picked up the star medal, looking down at it for a long moment before murmuring, "... It doesn't feel like I've done much to deserve it, that's for sure. While I think Gale made the right choice with you, I wonder what he saw in me. I think it's safe to say neither of us know what he was thinking."

"It's a life away from Inverness. Everything will be different. I know that we'll do our best to make it our home, but it won't be the same." Kate said softly, watching as Kell looked over the items that had been sent for him as well from Marianne. "We have a lot to live up to. I just hope that we can do that as quickly as we possibly can."

"No one is expecting you to be Gale or Marianne," Kell reminded her softly. "And you don't need to rush it either. I think most people just want a steadfast leader again. There will always be nay-sayers that we'll prove wrong just by keeping the country in one piece. And there will be some who are never happy no matter what you do. We'll just settle in as best we can and make this new life our own."

"It's just a lot of change at one time, Kell." Kate said, looking at him as she shook her head. "We're newly married. I'll be a new queen. We'll have a new home. It's a lot to take in, if I'm honest."

"I know it is. I suppose I just don't know what to do or say to make it easier. All I can do is reassure you that no matter what, we're a team and you won't be going it alone," Kell murmured, coming to kneel before her. He took her hands and kissed one before looking up at her. "It's not easy. It never will be. But we've got the best chances anyone could give us."

"It breaks my heart to know that this won't be my home anymore." Kate said softly as her husband knelt before her and took her hands in his own, trying to soothe her aching heart. "I can't even bring myself to pack up my belongings and we leave for Edinburgh in a couple of weeks."

"This will always be home, Kate," Kell promised softly. "No matter where we go. You're a Ghis, and that means Inverness will always be here for you. Edinburgh will just be another home before long."

"It'll take some time and I know I will be surly, but as long as you love me, I think I'll survive." Kate said as she leaned in to rest her head against his shoulder, hugging him tightly.

"I can take any frustration when you need to vent," Kell promised, kissing her cheek. "That's what I'm here for."

Khan butted his head against Kell's side to get in on the moment, rumbling until one of them paid him attention. Kate chuckled and looked towards her tiger, shaking her head.

"We might just leave you behind, you brute." Kate murmured, scratching his head until he rumbled happily.

"He'd make for a good intimidation factor," Kell smiled to himself. "Some of those lords might second-guess being so petulant like Warwick said they were."

"Little do they know that he's spoiled and fat." Kate said, scratching Khan under the chin until he rolled onto his back. "Because Chessie feeds him far too much and he begs for scraps from my siblings, which they willingly give him."

"We'll put him to work like Ashien does with Ballas," Kell smirked. "Hunting and training. You'll be a proper guard beast," he reached out to Pat the tiger, only for Khan to catch his hand in his paws and begin chewing on his fingers gently.

"He's too much trouble, I'm afraid." Kate said as she lay her head on her husband's shoulder, sighing as she simply relaxed for the first time since the things from Edinburgh had arrived.

"He'll be a good distraction when things get too serious." Kell rose and sat on the bed beside her, drawing her into his lap.

"Hopefully he'll keep you from being too serious." Kate teased as he pulled her into his lap and she sighed, her eyes closing to relax in his arms. "Marianne said that she will have someone decorate our apartments so that they're ready when we arrive, but I think I want to do it myself. It'll be a nice distraction and I think putting together our first home might be fun."

"I don't have much of an eye for decorating, so I'll follow your lead." Kell smiled down at her, laughing as Khan tried to crawl up as well despite having grown far too big. "Not you too, cat," he chuckled, giving Khan a little shove back onto the bed. Khan's response was to catch his hand again and try to chew on his fingers again.

"Khan, behave." Kate said as her tiger was chewing on Kell's fingers, trying to do things that he was far too big to do these days. "I expect that you'll tell me what your preferences are. I don't want a home that simply reflects my likes."

"I like darker, cool colors... And room to move around," Kell murmured after Khan hopped down and wandered out. "If that helps at all."

"I can work with that." Kate said with a grin, kissing her husband. "I'll make sure that your office reflects your likes. It'll be the place that you can relax without anyone else intruding. Mine will be the same."
